For 507 happy souls, that was last Friday evening, at the 2018 edition of Auckland’s Bike Rave. A noisy, glamorous, joyful party on wheels, it was a sunset group ride to celebrate all that is good about cycling in Auckland. And Auckland, it seemed, was happy to celebrate back. At just about every intersection the ravers crossed, drivers and pedestrians made their own cheerful racket in support. Used to all the on-road love? Not really. Enjoy it? You bet! It’s certainly shaping up that way, with Nelson St opening up a world of psychedelic bike access, and now, the sparkly return of Auckland’s Bike Rave! Come join us at the Mission Bay Reserve on the 5th of December at 8pm, for an awesome night ride along the waterfront, into town, to gather at Victoria Park. But despite a week’s postponement due to rain, on Friday 22nd May, over 500 keen people on bikes (that’s a guestimate) assembled for what was Auckland’s first ever official Bike Rave. It’s been an exciting journey getting there.
