Who are the Infrastructure Team?
The Bike Auckland Infrastructure Team (BAIT) are real people shaping real streets. We are volunteers working with local and central government and transport agencies to make cycling safer and more accessible across Auckland.
What does BAIT do?
Turning plans into better rides — influencing street and transport designs before they’re built.
Filling the gaps — advocating for a connected, accessible bike network.
Building a better city — helping create safer, healthier, more sustainable transport for everyone.

Why get involved?
Your voice matters. Local riders have real influence in shaping the future of their streets.
With your knowledge, you’ll spot how designs could be improved to work better for all the different kinds of people who use them.
Later, you’ll ride down streets knowing you played a part in making them better than they might have been without your input.
Who we need
We value expertise in urban design, engineering, and planning, but technical skills aren’t a requirement. If you have an eye for detail and “on-the-bike” experience, you belong on the team.
The commitment
- Time: Ideally 1+ hour per month.
- Meetings: Quarterly meetups to exchange ideas and discuss upcoming projects.
How does volunteering for BAIT work?
Join the mailing list to hear about opportunities to have input.
Contribute individually or alongside other volunteers — whether that’s coordinating volunteer feedback, providing feedback, attending drop-in sessions, or helping shape submissions.
There’s plenty of support from experienced volunteers along the way.
