Samuel Miller Reserve in Pukekohe is a real gem.
The concrete path looping around it is great for the littler ones that are gaining confidence and are okay with a bit of an incline. And the road signs, and roundabout are wonderful additions to the space.
There is also an inner loop, a gravel one. This one needs a bit more skill as its loose gravel (and arguably needs a bit of maintenance) , so maybe not the option for beginners. But older kids, with some skills could find it a lot of fun.
The playground is excellent, with a big flying fox, swings and the piece de resistance – a very fast, twisty slide that comes with a warning sign!
I think a lot of kids will love it. Long pants and a long sleeve top will undoubtably add to the enjoyment!
The flying fox is always popular with the kids, as it the playground.
A few of the great street signs they have:
This Stop sign is one you really want the kids to obey – check out the step up to the concrete path! (The council has been notified, but it might take some time for it to be fixed.) This is one of the intersections where the gravel meets the concrete path. As mentioned, the gravel needs a bit more skill, so if your littlie is just a beginner, you might want to keep them to the concrete path.
And some more added bonuses – there are community fruit trees, and a barbecue. Get the right time of year, and you can pick an apple for a snack. And if you’re organised, you can have a barbecue lunch or dinner right while you’re here.
The reserve is on the corner of Nelson Street and John Street, Pukekohe. There is street parking on both street frontages.
There is a toilet here too.
