Ramping up Parnell Baths Bridge

One of the small pleasures of being a long-term cycle advocate is that sometimes you can make suggestions that in previous times would have resulted in blank stares, or even opposition – yet have now suddenly become respectable.

In this case, we dropped a quick note last week to a project manager, asking whether the new pedestrian bridge at Parnell Baths could receive wheeling channels (metal or stone “runners” along the side so one can push a bike up or down easier – very common in cycle-friendly European countries where the gradient is too steep for a cycle path).

Yesterday, it was confirmed that indeed, Auckland Council had already thought of that, and that both the bridge and the path down from Saint Stephens Avenue will receive the channels. Nice.
