Mayor Len Brown’s list of 100 Projects has some exciting ideas for improving Auckland’s transport and urban design. Cycle Action supports his call for expanding alternative transport options and urban design.
We especially like his request for the implementation of safer cycling on CBD streets (our own report to Council on some of these issues is mentioned) And it’s good to see that his support for the Auckland public hire service already out to tender by Council. Some of these items are already in progress – we look forward to seeing many more changes in 2011.
Here are our 10 top picks from the Mayor’s 100 project list which we hope will improve cycling in Auckland:
– School transit plans across Auckland
– Expand alternative transport options for Auckland
– Auckland public bike service
– Investigate safer cycling on CBD streets
– Evaluate Project Twin Streams as a regionwide initiative
– Support the completion of the Orakei Basin Boardwalk
– Prioritise the delivery of the CBD streetscapes’ shared space projects for Rugby World Cup 2011
– The Waterfront Master Plan
– Develop urban design principles for Auckland
– Development of an international city centre master plan for Auckland
