New cyclelane work starts tomorrow for Tamaki Drive / Quay St intersection

Before you get too excited –  this project only involves  a new cyclelane thruough the Tamaki Drive – Quay St intersection. It is  not the one we are all hanging out to get – improvements to The Strand/ Tamaki Drive /Quay St and Gladstone Rd series of close  intersections.

That said, we have been asking for this work for some years to provide a lane for safer city- bound travel from Tamaki Drive to Quay St. So it’s good that it’s happening at last. Starting tomorrow!

I must confess, I was tricked for a moment a couple of Saturdays ago when I was returning by bike from the La Cigale Farmers market, and ran into a huge line of trucks and trailers and cars . I thought the delay signaled work was happening on our project – but no – it was a Vector contractor digging into the rail overbridge.

We knew the Vector work had to happen first – so now it’s our turn to cause a bit of traffic delay. What better cause – a safer route for cyclists through this hugely busy intersection to get into the Central city . Hooray!
