Great new options for Bike the Bridge 2015 – let’s do it!

Web_InfoImage_Bike-the-Bridge-16.11.2014-115Exciting news from Bike the Bridge and Auckland Transport about this year’s event: it’s been made even friendlier for every kind of rider, with options aplenty for all. Take part at your own pace, at your own level, and enjoy the thrill of sailing high over our beautiful harbour under your own power… for a taste of what Skypath will eventually give us every day.

“Bike the Bridge is the ideal launch into a summer of cycling,” says organiser Callum McNair. The event takes place on Sunday 15 November. Not only is it a great day out, it’s for a great cause, with participants raising money to combat MS.

  • The full ride, 22km out and back, begins and ends at Smales Farm and includes a double bridge crossing. Set off with the early birds at 6 a.m.
  • Not to worry if that sounds like a long ride to you: “if you can bike 7km, you can bike our Harbour Bridge” they say! The one-way trip south, from Smales Farm to Westhaven, starts with the main ride at 6 a.m.
  • If you can manage 14km, then try the one-way northward ride, which begins at Westhaven, goes up to Constellation Drive and then back down to Smales Farm. That one starts at 7.15 a.m.

NB for both of those one-way rides, you’ll need to plan how you get back to your starting point, or to home – perhaps via the fabulous ferry-friendly Green Route through Takapuna and Devonport. Also, you will need to be aged 11 or over on ride day to cross the bridge.

  • And, if you just want a wee ride – especially if you’re planning to do it with wee riders – but still want all the thrill of biking on a highway (just like they do in NYC!) then you’ll be wanting the 4km Bike the Busway Family Loop from Smales Farm and back again. It starts at 7.15 a.m.

So many possibilities! See all the options here, plus details of how to register. Be quick, as space is limited!
