Cycle projects on NNR – AT’s view

Bike Auckland

Cycle Lane On NNR[As a follow-up from the two recent cycle lane / pinch point widening projects on New North Road, here is a quick message from Auckland Transport regarding the project’s history.

AT’s project manager has said he was happy to answer questions on the project, or about the lessons they learned – so feel free to sound off queries in the comments]

Auckland Transports in its commitments to improving cycling in Auckland worked in collaboration with CAA to deliver the New North Road cycling improvements project. The project had many challenges including stakeholder push back from the loss of parking to technical design constraints through the scheme phase. These challenges provided the opportunity for Auckland Transports project representatives to work with CAA to come up with the best outcome for cycling while considering a balanced approach to the safety of all road users and managing the demand for parking in this busy business precinct.

Auckland Transport would like to thank Barbara for her patience and cooperation in the delivery of these projects and would also like to extend a big thank you to Max who took a lot of time to review the designs and help work through the technical challenges we all faced.

Auckland Transport will continue to work collaboratively with CAA to identify key areas for cycling improvements in the region and take forward some of the key lessons learned from this first time joint project.
