A few weeks ago I wrote a blog about the poor condition of cycle lane markings on the cycle lane connecting Devonport and Takapuna, and linked this to the frequent tendency of motorists to park on the lane to take phone calls or visit an adjacent property. It is very off-putting, especially to new cyclists, to find their pathway blocked, forcing them to join the stream of car, bus and truck traffic.
I suggested it warranted putting up ‘safe hit posts’ to define and prevent encroachment into the cyclelane. But Cycle Action is never hardline on solutions. So imagine my delight yesterday when I came across a section of the road with bright new white paint and this new symbol.
I’d like to thank the person responsible for this initiative – and ask if the new improved symbols can be extended all the way to Hauraki Corner.
In the meantime, tell us if you think this will help reduce cycle lane abuse!
