Hundreds of incredible individuals and committed groups got behind our Big Bike-Off and made it rock! Here in the Bike Auckland Crew we feel so moved by the conversations we’ve had over the course of the Big Bike-Off and why our work matters.

Here is just a small selection of the comments left on our fundraising page, which show the heartwarming response to the Big Bike-Off.

  • Benoit: “Keep up the work team”
  • Theresia: “Go forwards bike riding! Kia Manuia”
  • Vibeke: “Waihekeans want to cross the harbour on a bike too! Bikes come along with us on the ferry so they are the transport we use to get around town”
  • Jim: “I want to make cycling a safe choice to get around the city.”
  • Josie: “Keep the pressure going on one day biking the Harbour Bridge”
  • Rhett: “Keep up the great work Bike Auckland!”
  • Louise and Cyc Otāhuhu: “Malo lava Bike AKL! Supporting Biketober.”
  • Roger: “It’s an investment in the future of cycling.”

It was awesome to feel the aroha from Bike Burbs around Tāmaki Makaurau, who took up the Fundraising Challenge and showed just how much our whole region loves to bike.

Indeed, every corner of Tāmaki Makaurau helped raise funds. The tension was palpable as North & Waiheke vied with Central & East to take the top slot! But in the end Team Central & East won the Big Bike-Off Fundraising Challenge with a whopping $2,285 raised – ka rawe! Watch out for the announcement of Biketober’s launch event later this year – to be hosted in the central and east area.

There were incredibly creative fundraising ideas like fundraising decals from Bike Te Atatū, and lively bike karaoke events around the city centre.

Our match funders have been amazing – commitment from fabulous allies Lime, Zoomin and Sandfield got people motivated to support this great cause. Thank you – and thank you to everyone who donated and shared about the campaign.

Together we raised a phenomenal $12,645 – what a result. But not only did we raise funds, but the Big Bike-Off reminded people why visibility of bikes is important, and the purpose of a festival like Biketober

The funds will help make Biketober 2025 more impactful than ever, changing the conversation around cycling, bringing local decision-makers on board, and getting more people than ever giving cycling for transport a whirl across our whole region. Funds raised by each team will be put towards supporting Biketober activations in their areas, and we’re seeking grants funding to address equity imbalances; ensuring no area misses out.

Did you get inspired to be a part of Biketober? Get in touch with your ideas for awesome bike events that you’d like to put on. We can’t wait to hear them.
