The Inner West Network comprises three fabulous connected street improvement projects initially proposed in 2016. Two of the three projects were given the tick to proceed in their entirety after hard-won advocacy work over years. First to be completed was the Pt Chevalier to Westmere project which attracted immediate uptake in early 2025. The Great North Road cycleway officially opened in March 2026, and people are loving it. The third section linking the completed projects, along Surrey Crescent and Old Mill Road, has been partly delivered, utilising scheduled road renewals to deliver it more affordably. More improvements are to be delivered via the Waitematā Local Active Modes Plan (LAMP).
The three routes are:
Point Chevalier to Westmere Improvements (including Meola Road): complete!
The cycleways along Point Chevalier and Meola Road are open to ride!
Great North Road Improvements : complete!
The cycleway along Great North Road from the intersection of Ponsonby Road and Karangahape Road to the Grey Lynn shops is open to ride!
Waitematā Safer Routes, now renamed ‘Surrey Crescent and Old Mill Road Improvements, runs from the Grey Lynn Shops to Meola Road: A portion this route has been delivered as part of scheduled road renewals, reducing the price of delivery.
Further enhancements are to be delivered during 2026 via the Waitematā Local Active Modes Plan (LAMP).
We will continue to push for these projects to be the best they can be, and to complete the missing link at Grey Lynn shops.
