If elected to represent Waitemata Local Board, I, Alex Bonham, pledge:
I believe people of all ages should feel able to bike safely to get around. Auckland needs more climate-friendly transport to ensure a sustainable and resilient Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, protecting our environment and communities for future generations. If elected, I commit to making a safe, connected cycle network a priority.
Comments
There is a lot to do to make the city a great place to walk and cycle. You can do a lot quickly and cheaply and often most of the cost of a road upgrade is underground, sorting out utilities and strengthening the road for electric buses etc. Nevertheless increasing the budget to prioritise a people friendly urban realm means you find yourself with a connected walking and cycling network, plazas, and handsome town centres. It means more trees are planted and interesting streets. It means lower emissions, noise and air pollution. It means more independence and participation for kids and the frail. It is a shift in thinking towards a better city.
