On Sunday 20 November Auckland is hosting the Barfoot & Thompson ITU Triathlon World Cup.

Tamaki Drive will be fully closed to all traffic and cyclists from Mission Bay to Quay St from 4am to Noon.

This is no ordinary road closure – competitors will be riding on the right hand side of the road and therefore there will be absolutely non event traffic, motorists nor cyclists, allowed on the course.

In addition:

  • There will be half road closures on The Strand, Gladstone Rd, St Stephens Ave, Brighton Rd, Shore Rd, Orakei Rd, and Ngapipi Rd.
  • Quay Street, Queen St and many of the inner city streets will be fully closed from 4am to 7pm for the elite race.

The event organizers would be grateful if you could spread the word to your own cycling networks (email, facebook, and word of mouth) about the closures and please do not enter the bike course under any circumstances as it will pose significant risk to competitors and yourselves.  It would be highly appreciative if you could plan alternative routes for that day.

Further information on road closures can be found on both the ITU website and at Auckland Transport.    If you have any questions please contact: info@triauckland.co.nz

Your support is greatly appreciated and if you are looking for something to do that day…. why not come down to cheer on your fellow Kiwis as they take on the world’s best triathletes.
