Little Rangitoto Reserve on Upland Road in Remuera has got nice bikeable tracks for kids and a great playground. There’s also a very long flying fox!
There is a skateboard area, with a shallow ‘bowl’ that was lots of fun to ride around (while we had it to ourselves), allowing the kids to get up speed on the slopes. The big bowl is skateboards only and kids on bikes stay well away. (My little one didn’t need to be told twice).
Some bits of track are lumpy from the tree roots, so scooters might struggle but as long as cyclists look where they’re going, it’s fine. There are loads of beautiful mature trees, so I imagine on a hot day there would be lots of shady spots to cool down under.
Unfortunately there is no toilet on site, just keep that in mind.
A short way down Upland Road there’s Benson Road Deli, perfect for picking up or stopping for coffee and food.
A bit further away are the Eastern Beaches if you want to add sandcastles or swimming to the outing.
- Learner (balance bike, trainer wheels)
- Confident child (pedal bike - no trainer wheels)
Yes, but you can easily avoid those areas
There is plenty of on-street parking on Upland Road beside the park.
Kids visible at all times?
Suitable for multiple kids
Watch out for
The big skateboard bowl - its deeper than it looks in the photos!
