Suggested questions to ask election candidates
We have taken many of these questions from the excellent work of Bike Te Atatū, Bike Henderson and Bike Massey in previous elections. We recommend looking at the example questionnaire from 2019 which they have shared.
Questionnaire intro
Bike Burb Name and Bike Burb Name are cycling advocacy groups that sit within our Local Board area. Between us we have over XXX members in our Facebook groups, as well as XXX social media followers and mailing list subscribers. Our aim is to promote active transport in our neighbourhoods by advocating for cycling infrastructure, organising bike-related events (rides, fix-it days, social events) and providing a network for people interested in using a bicycle in our suburbs.
This questionnaire is aimed at discovering which local board candidates in the upcoming elections are most closely aligned with the issues our members have identified as being important.
General attitudes to active transport in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland
- What is your vision for the future of transport in Auckland?
- What will you do to enable better transport options for those who can’t or don’t want to drive, including children?
- Do you support allowing safer speeds in Auckland, where the community supports it, so that it’s safe for people to walk, scoot, wheel and cycle?
- Do you support finding a way for people on foot and on bikes to cross the Auckland Harbour?
Attitudes to biking in your local board area
- The percentage of children biking to school is at its lowest point ever – just 3% of secondary school students and 2% of primary school pupils. Our area suffers significant unnecessary congestion as a result. What will you do to encourage cycling to schools?
