Ride Marshal at Bike the Tunnel: Waterview Connection Opening
June 23, 2017 @ 9:15 am - 1:30 pmFree
Join Bike Auckland as a Ride Marshal at NZTA’s Waterview Connection Tunnel Ride!
Bike Auckland is looking for experienced riders to join our Ride Marshal team as a volunteer at NZTA’s official Tunnel opening on Friday, 23 June and/or Sunday, 25 June. Join us in supporting the thousands of people experiencing the Waterview Connection Tunnel by bike, before it opens to traffic.
What do Ride Marshals do?
Ride Marshals are crucial to keeping the ride running smoothly and safely. They are experienced cyclists who provide assistance along the course. Strong people skills and basic bike repair knowledge are a must. Responsibilities include helping riders with flats and bike repair, responding to emergencies, providing information to participants, setting the pace, and encouraging slow riders.
Ride Marshal Roles
Ride leaders to ride in the front and set the pace/lead the ride
Support riders who will ride in the middle with the group
Sweeps to ride at the back of the group, motivate riders to keep up with the pack and offer any bike maintenance that may be required
A unique opportunity to ride this “sold out” event through the Waterview Connection before it opens to cars only
Breakfast or lunch and hot drinks!
All volunteers are required to attend a briefing session (including a ride through of the tunnels) prior to the event. Volunteers will also receive a volunteer handbook via email that will provide all details pertaining to volunteering at the event.
