Car dependency leaves us vulnerable
The fuel crisis exposes the long‑standing vulnerability in New Zealand’s transport system.
We rely heavily on one mode – private cars – and that leaves households and the country exposed.
We must act now
The fuel crisis is a transport crisis, and the government is too slow to react.
New Zealanders are hurting at the pump now. We cannot wait five years for massive infrastructure projects to be signed off. We need rapid rollout of transport choice today.
Build it faster
The solutions are already here; we just need to unlock them.
Many solutions are shovel-ready or partially built – let’s speed them up. Government and councils can act quickly by accelerating existing projects.
Use pop-ups
“Quick-win” infrastructure is the most fiscally responsible response.
As we did during COVID lockdowns, we can put in place pop-up infrastructure to support Kiwis’ changing transport modes.
Behaviour change
We need to shift behaviour by shifting the environment.
You can’t ask people to leave the car at home if they don’t feel safe. By combining physical infrastructure changes with behaviour change and financial incentives, we can rapidly change how New Zealand moves.
Transport choice is freedom
You deserve the freedom to choose.
You shouldn’t be forced to pay exorbitant fuel prices just to get to work or drop the kids at school. We are fighting to give you affordable, safe, and easy alternatives.
