Hunua Ranges Regional Park River Loop Safari Ride

This ride is quite different from our usual city-based safari routes. Instead of bike paths, neighbourhood streets, and urban corners, we’ll be riding through one of the closest true forest environments to Auckland. The Hunua Ranges offer deep valleys, native bush, open river flats, and peaceful gravel roads with no vehicle traffic. You will not need a mountain bike; the route is mainly light gravel so you might not be comfortable on a racing bike. Don’t worry if you are not used to gravel riding, we will be going slowly and carefully. The Hunua River Loop is a scenic gravel and bush-edge circuit following the Mangatāwhiri Stream through the heart of the Hunua Ranges. The loop includes flat valley riding, shaded bush sections, and gentle climbs with views back across the river. Total distance is approximately 10–12 km, taking 90–120 minutes at a relaxed safari pace.
