As a timely reminder while we debate whether it is okay to remove traffic lanes temporarily to build a rail line – and in advance of the upcoming debate as to whether we can remove traffic lanes from Quay Street without OH MY GOD – IT WILL BE GRIDLOCK!!! – here is a nice article about how Vancouver has grown without having their (car) traffic grow.
How? Well, they simply didn’t build more and more roads into their downtown. In fact, they started taking some lanes away. And every time, chaos was predicted. And didn’t happen.
We can learn from that. Roll on.
