SUMMARY:New date: Te Auaunga (Oakley Creek) Family Safari Ride
DESCRIPTION:This will be a chilled 2.7km ride for families with small children or grandparents with grandchildren. No minimum rider age\, even balance bikes will be fine. \nOn the Moonlight Ride last year we had lots of toddlers hooning it on their balance bikes. Our destination will be the playground at Owairaka Park. We will have morning tea there\, bring your favourite snacks and drinks. We will stop on the way back at the Pump Track in Underwood Park. There is another playground in that park as well. \nWe’ll ride at a comfortable pace to suit all riders\, with regular regroup points. \nIf you haven’t been along this section of the Awa\, go here to see the background to its story.

DESCRIPTION:Pride Ride: Journey on the Rainbow Path Join us for Pride Ride: Journey on the Rainbow Path\, a vibrant and inclusive bike ride that celebrates the LGBTQIA+ community. This fun and welcoming event is open to everyone\, whether you’re a seasoned cyclist or new to biking. It’s a wonderful opportunity to come together\, show support for diversity\, and ride in solidarity for a more inclusive future. \nThe event kicks off at the Wesley Community Centre and follows a scenic route towards the Rainbow Path\, located at the corner of Great North Road and Carrington Road. As we ride through the streets\, participants will experience the energy and unity of the LGBTQIA+ community\, proudly wearing rainbow colours and helmets. Upon return\, we’ll gather for a relaxed social event featuring a sausage sizzle and ice blocks available for a gold coin donation. \nAll proceeds will support our rainbow rangatahi in Puketāpapa\, ensuring that young members of the LGBTQIA+ community have the resources and support they need. This is more than just a bike ride; it’s a celebration of pride\, love\, and acceptance. So\, put on your brightest colours\, gear up with your helmets\, and ride with pride! \nPlease note – Riders must be confident to ride at least 10km on the day.\nThe whole route is along shared walk/bike paths. DESCRIPTION:Get your hands behind a big rig to spot blindzones in this workshop to build rider confidence in sharing the road with trucks\, buses and large vehicles. \nOnce you have done this workshop you will remember:\nwhere to place yourself and your bike (or vehicle) so a truck driver can see you and that it is better to overtake a truck on the right \nyou will know: \n\nthat trucks may move straight forward from a stop before turning\, to clear a corner.\nthat heavy vehicles’ bodies will swing wide of their wheel tracks\nthat heavy vehicles’ rear axles may turn up to 2m ‘tighter’ than front axles\n\n“It’s a total eye opener! Unless you have sat in the driver’s seat of a large truck you have no idea just how little you can see from up there.
