SUMMARY:Think Talk: The Bicyle Prevents Cancer! With Professor Alistair Woodward
DESCRIPTION:Active commuting – walking or cycling to work – reduces the risk of common cancers. In this talk we will look at the finding of a recent PhD study by Dr Win Thu\, drawing on the UK Biobank data base\, including over 250\,000 participants. Alistair was one of Dr Thu’s supervisors. The study adds weight to previous research on the health benefits of physical activity. They found the effects of cycling were stronger than those of walking\, and applied most clearly to colon cancer\, kidney cancer and stomach cancer. \nEveryday travel choices are a practical way to meet physical activity guidelines\, improve health and reduce harm to the environment. \nAlistair Woodward is a public health doctor and epidemiologist. He has taught and carried out research in universities around the world for almost 40 years. Environmental causes of common health problems are my special interest. These include air pollution\, radiation\, transport\, housing and climate change.\nPlease register for this talk so we can plan seating for the expected numbers. A small donation on arrival at the door is appreciated. \nBook here:\nhttps://www.selwyncomed.school.nz/courses/2369-think-talk-the-bicycle-prevents-cancer/
