A great way to finish the day if you have joined the other bike events in the area.\n \nBike Eastern Suburbs is organising a Ride from Orakei to Point Erin and Bike Auckland is hitching onto their ride and drafting them to the picnic spot.\n \nRide details here:https://www.facebook.com/events/1563104121059149/\n \nThis event is part of Bike Auckland’s efforts to promote cycling and build a more bike-friendly community across Auckland. SUMMARY:Bike Ride and Picnic at Pt Erin
DESCRIPTION:Weather dependent! Check the Facebook event page on the day if in doubt.\n \n\n \nMeet at Sunhill Garden Centre at 11.00 and head down the shared path to Tamaki Drive. We will stop at Orakei Rd (11.15) and at Tamaki Drive (11.25) for people to join us. Ride the cycleway to the Viaduct and a short ride on the road to get us to the St Mary’s Bay path. We will stop at the end for a picnic lunch and retrace our wheel tracks home (with maybe a little diversion on the way)!\nBring picnic food\, drinks\, and a blanket or chair.\nThis is a casual\, slow\, no-drop ride for anyone who is able to confidently ride a 20km round trip. Kids welcome\, but you must be confident of their ability to ride the distance and ride safely. We will stop and regroup along the way.\n \nCaution: There will be tram tracks. Always cross them at an angle.

DESCRIPTION:We’re calling on Waka Kotahi (NZTA) to liberate a lane on the Harbour Bridge for cycling\, in a three-month trial this summer.\n\nSkypath has stalled\, and people trying to board ferries with their bikes are being turned away due to lack of space on board. We cannot wait five years for another solution.\n\nWith mounting congestion and increasing emissions in Auckland\, we must provide space for zero carbon transport now. The Bridge is the key missing link in our city’s cycle network.\n\nJoin our Liberate The Lane rally at Pt Erin Park on May 30th.\n\nWe are unable to host a ride over the Bridge\, because Waka Kotahi have refused our requests since December last year for a public ride. We know their refusal and lack of action is causing public frustration. It’s time they owned this\, and stepped up to deliver for Auckland.
