Two try-a-bike events – Saturday April 1, no fooling!

Bike Auckland

Fancy a new bike? Or fancy getting back into the bike life… but not sure where to start? Saturday April 1st (no joke!) brings two try-a-bike events that will give you a chance to take something fresh for a spin. One is aimed at families, the other at women getting back into riding, but everyone is warmly welcome to both.

First up is Try a Bike Day at Pt Chevalier Primary, from 11-1.

There’ll be e-bikes, cargo bikes, and kid bike seats to try out. Plus a bike obstacle course for the kids, and bike giveaway goodies from Bike Auckland and Auckland Transport, including great new maps of the central city bike paths.

It’s lunchtime, so the school community has you covered with a sausage sizzle, cake stall, and coffee cart – and pedal-powered smoothies! All at gold coin prices, and all funds raised will go towards a permanent bike pump and repair station for the school.

If you’re arriving by bike, there’ll also be (fingers crossed!) bike mechanics who can give your bike a quick WOF once-over and recommend any necessary repairs.

PtChevbikedrawingsAnd Paul from Auckland Transport will be there to answer questions about the new designs for bike lanes and better footpaths through Pt Chev. We can also talk about local greenways/ safe routes to make the most of the new bike lanes.

When Saturday April 1, from 11am-1pm.

Where Pt Chevalier School, 7 Te Ra Road, Pt Chevalier

fallinlovewithabikeLater the same afternoon on the North Shore, come and Fall in Love with a Bike at Narrow Neck Beach. This event is aimed especially (but not exclusively) at women. It’s a perfect opportunity for those interested in riding more to test out a wide range of amazing bikes.

It’ll be equally fun for those already enamoured with two wheels, wanting to share the joy or try a new ride, from vintage step-throughs to cargo bikes and e-bikes. Ladies, bring a friend, enjoy an afternoon tea, and fall in love.

Please RSVP for catering purposes, to Adrienne.hooper@at.govt.nz More details on the FB event page.

When Saturday April 1, from 3 – 4.30.

Where Wakatere Boating Club at Narrow Neck Beach. This is on the Takapuna/Devonport bus route, and is only a short bus trip from the Devonport Ferry Terminal (or a short ride along a shared path).
