To market, to market, to… meet Bike Avondale!

To market, to market, to… meet Bike Avondale!

Bike Auckland

A hot tip if you’re shopping for fruit and veg (or bits and bobs) this weekend… The fabulous Avondale Sunday Markets are the place to be, and given the parking situation, biking is the way to get there.

You never know what you’ll find there – but this week, we know for sure you’ll find the up and coming Bike Avondale group, cheerfully staffing a bike repair station and info tent. Earlybirds can say gidday to Kurt from around 5am (!), and Sarah from Blend and our Jessica will be pitching in until noon.

They’ll have giveaways and prizes, a photo tag game, PLUS! the scoop on upcoming plans for bike paths in the area – including the New Lynn to Waterview path (the one that will run alongside the train line). They’re also looking forward to surveying you about your bike habits and favourite shortcuts and so on, with a massive map to draw all over.

Bonus: bike mechanics will be on site 9.30am – 11.30am to give your bike a once-over.

For more details, check out the event page. You can also join Bike Avondale’s Facebook group to chat about local issues, or connect with them on Twitter.

PS Want to make a day of it? Check out the new arts space ALL GOODS, the brainchild of Whau the People, at 1875 Great North Rd (open 10-1, Thurs – Sun). And then bike up to the NW cycleway to visit the Harbourview Sculpture Trail in Te Atatu, with a peek at the artful new underpass on your way.
