The Power and Beauty of Teamwork

Our house is full of a rare sound – crowds cheering at the All Black vs France rugby match. I’m a complete novice to rugby, but my hubbie is into popular culture.

Even as a novice I can see it’s all about teamwork that makes spirits to soar and suspend.  To relieve the tension, please read my story of cycling teamwork happening here in Auckland!

Yesterday I was enroute to South Auckland, Mangere, to deliver a couple of donated bikes to Mr Teau. He’s got kids cycling, fixing donated bikes and the world of fitness and fun that comes from being on a bike.

Bike Barn bike voucher and donations for Mr T

While passing Bike Barn in Barry’s Point Rd, Takapuna I stopped to cash in a voucher I’d got from NZTA for speaking to the Agency’s Project managers. (Lovely people, they got fired up about the stunning cycling projects happening across NZ). When I told Danny at Bike Barn that I wanted gear to give to Mr Teau he swapped the voucher for 5 bike locks and bike tubes. Sweet!I’d arranged to meet Mr T in the carpark at the Mangere’s Centre Park, beside the Community House. I had a few false starts along the way, stopping at other parks. At each of them local people were putting on events to get kids out of home and active. How’s that for teamwork?

When I found Mr T he was absolutely delighted with the donated bikes which his kids will refurbish for their use, bike tyres donated to me by other people and the bike locks and tubes.  Mr T with Bike Barn locks and inner tubes

This man is a hero.

Here’s to the others who helped Mr T along the way – the mates who donated bikes and gear for Mr T; the NZTA who gave me a voucher for doing what I love most, (exciting people about cycling) and Bike Barn for making the voucher go further than its face value.

If you want to join the team to help us support Mr T – we’d love cash donations or bike gear his gang can fix and use – please flick me a text – 0274 125 824.

The All Blacks are winning still! GO teamwork!
