The Big Bike Film Night – double the fun for Auckland

Bike Auckland

‘All bikes, all terrain, all good’ is the motto for the homegrown Big Bike Film Night. It’s a moveable feast – a travelling bike-themed short-film festival which got off the ground last year, thanks to the energy and enthusiasm of organiser Brett Cotter, who wants to share the ‘best cycling short films from around the world’ with local audiences.

The Big Bike Film Night rolls into Auckland next week for two exclusive screenings:

When: Tuesday 24 & Thursday 26 May, 8pm

Where: Academy Cinema on Lorne St

Tickets are $20 and can be bought in advance here.

(Yes, you could take your chances with door sales on the night, but the cinema only seats 200 and as of this writing, 3/4 of the tickets are already gone!)

The Auckland screenings will be a red carpet affair, with valet bike parking right outside a velvet rope, paparazzi, spot prizes galore, including Volta jackets, awesome CatEye bike lights, magazines, and freebies.

The shows start at 8pm, and there’s a 15 min interval for socialising, sandwiched between two great hours of entertainment. But be sure to bowl up early to grab refreshments and enjoy some bike chat.

Our pal Zane from AT has had a sneak peek and raves about it:

I was fortunate enough to see a screen test at the Academy the other week and was blown away. It’s absolutely got something for everyone, maybe a tear to be shed, many a laugh, a little ‘OMG’ and some ‘I could do that!’ along with plenty of ‘I could never do that, but I want to!!!’

If you want to ride the Otago Rail Trail, go bikepacking around the world, grow old and still be riding your bike… if you are into mountain biking… if you are into giving back to the community… If you love amazing scenery… this has something for you.

We hear it’s even got a glimpse of our very own Bike Te Atatu. Who can resist? Here’s that link for tickets again. What are you waiting for? On your bike!
