Map showing possible route of cycleway

Last Thursday Cycle Action had the pleasure of hosting a presentation from Andrew Scoggins of Auckland Transport and Mieszko Iwaskow from NZTA on the proposed Tamaki Drive to Glen Innes cycleway.

This project was due to happen some years into the future, but, thanks to smart collaboration, is being readied to deliver in stages. We’re hoping for stage 1 construction to begin  in a matter of months, with stakeholder engagement underway next month.

You can click here to download the presentation (PDF).

Please keep in mind that the timeframes shown are indicative at this stage. We’ll know more as AT/NZTA jointly confirm the consenting strategy and funding during June.

From kick-off at the end of the year, the project will gradually transform PT and cycling access and connect the eastern central suburbs with each other, and ultimately, with the Central City. It represents a transformation often talked about by politicians, and keenly awaited by Auckland residents.

We’re pleased Cycle Action and the Orakei Local Board (especially Ken Baguley, the Board’s Transport Portfolio holder) were able to play a role in fast tracking this project. It shows the benefit of the new cycling culture in Auckland, where the NZTA and AT are working closely with community representatives to deliver projects faster, smarter and in tune with community needs.

It’s a winning formula for the new Auckland!
