Auckland Transport reports from their automatic counters that:

There has been an increase of 11.4% in cyclist movements in June 2014 when compared to June 2013. The morning peak movement’s increased by 18.7% when compared to June last year. A total of 915,458 cycle trips were recorded for the year July 2013 to June 2014, this is an increase of 9.6% on the previous year.

Of course we will need this growth to ramp up even more – but good to see there remains a steady growth, even with the slow pace of cycleway work over the last 2 years…

  1. Good! And when the new cycle paths open, that will enable and encourage more people to cycle.

  2. I’ve been cycling in Auckland for 2 years and It certainly feels like there are more and more of us. Good to see more Aucklanders getting healthier AND saving money! Plus, the more of us there are, the safer it gets.
