Sunset Road, are you meeting your Target (Road)s?

Sunset Road, are you meeting your Target (Road)s?Horrible puns aside, there’s something planned for where Sunset Road meets Target Road in the Totara Vale part of the Shore. And in the developing tradition of Auckland Transport’s proposals of the last couple of years, the proposals are a mixed bag of good and bad. Sunset Road and Target Road / Caribbean Drive are larger collector roads through the middle of this Auckland residential suburb, leading to the surrounding arterial roads, motorways and, increasingly, busways and new cycleways. Albany: so much potential… so many gaps

Albany: so much potential… so many gapsThe Northern Corridor Improvement project will transform bike riding in Albany and the Upper Harbour area, NZTA is building 7km of shared path alongside the motorway from Oteha Valley Road to Constellation Drive and then up State Highway 18. This will *almost* link to a safe cycle route of 3.8km on Albany Highway. In this guest post, Anna Atkinson explains that although locals are truly lucky that this is happening, in order to really make the most of it, the NZTA, AT and the Local Board need to work together and “think network”, to improve the connections into the local areas. Join us to talk bike parking at Devonport Ferry Terminal

Join us to talk bike parking at Devonport Ferry TerminalOn the first Thursday of each month, Bike Auckland convenes a casual breakfast meet-up at different cafes around the central city. The petition drew a powerful chorus of support: 3000 signatures and the backing of the bereaved families, local schools, the local MP, and the Upper Harbour Local Board. (Read more here about the long-running push for safety on this road. In particular, the 2013 Corridor Management Plan (CMP) for Oteha Valley Road recommended comprehensive upgrades to protect people walking and cycling, but has been gathering dust ever since. As always, we invite AT to reread that CMP and Bike Auckland’s January 2014 submission in support, in …
