A pop-up pink party – Lightpath turns one!

Bike Auckland

Can you believe it’s a year since the First Hoon?? And so much has happened in the meantime. So it’s a great time to celebrate Lightpath/ Te Ara i Whiti and everything it signifies – that beautiful imagery, flashing round the world, and all the other bike paths, big and small, that are on Auckland’s horizon over the next few years.

Light up your bike, come to town on the evening of Thursday 1 December, and help us celebrate!

Gather at 8pm at the Canada St end of Lightpath, opposite Mercury Plaza, and together we’ll ride…

…to the cake! We’ve commissioned the most enormous, most spectacular and most divinely delicious cake, by the city’s best cake artist, Jenny Nicholls of For Heaven’s Cake! Here’s just a glimpse of just one tiny corner of the stunning treat that awaits you…

Keen to make a big night of it? Good – because K Road’s First Thursdays Carnival starts at 6pm, with activities, stalls, and a fiesta feeling all along the main drag and down the side streets. But wait, there’s more:

  • Maurice and co at the Electric Bicycle Hub, on East St right near the Canada St entrance to Lightpath, will be open that evening – browse their bikes, baskets, and brilliant range of goods. They have e-bikes available for test-riding on the path, woohoo! And they can also lend out regular bikes for the ride, so if you arrive bike-less, pop in and check with them.
  • The enormous Lego Christmas Tree is lighting up Aotea Square…
  • …and the delicious Night Noodle Markets are taking over Victoria Park (open till 10pm; NB parking will be diabolical, so it’s very clever of you to arrive by bike!).
  • After dark, the rooftop Santa will be unveiled at Ponsonby Central on the corner of Richmond Rd and Ponsonby Rd. Their Santa always has a funny twist, and this year’s version is very special…
  • Plus, good old Franklin Road turns on the famous Christmas lights the very same night!

So come early, stay late, have a bite, do some shopping, and then join us for a sunset dessert on the pink path as the sky darkens and the rainbow light show begins.

See you there! Light up your bike for extra sparkle!
