DESCRIPTION:Hello friends\, \nWe would like to invite you on the Puhinui Peninsula Safari Ride on Saturday Feb 28th will take us on new cycling infrastructure through Mangere Bridge. You will learn how you can ride all the way to the airport from Onehunga on cycle paths. We will finish up at a lookout in the Puhinui Reserve. At 199 hectares of rural landscape\, Puhinui Reserve occupies the southern portion of the Puhinui Peninsula. It has considerable historic\, conservation and cultural amenity value. The reserve forms part of the extensive Matukuturua volcanic field and is linked with pre-European settlements centred around Wiri Mountain and Matukutura (McLaughlins Mountain). \nStart/Finish will be at the Bike Hub near the Onehunga Train Station. SUMMARY:Hunua Ranges Regional Park River Loop Safari Ride
DESCRIPTION:This ride is quite different from our usual city-based safari routes. Instead of bike paths\, neighbourhood streets\, and urban corners\, we’ll be riding through one of the closest true forest environments to Auckland. The Hunua Ranges offer deep valleys\, native bush\, open river flats\, and peaceful gravel roads with no vehicle traffic. You will not need a mountain bike; the route is mainly light gravel so you might not be comfortable on a racing bike. Don’t worry if you are not used to gravel riding\, we will be going slowly and carefully. The Hunua River Loop is a scenic gravel and bush-edge circuit following the Mangatāwhiri Stream through the heart of the Hunua Ranges. The loop includes flat valley riding\, shaded bush sections\, and gentle climbs with views back across the river. Start 8:00pm – Finish approx 10:00pm.\nStart and finish at the Queens Wharf Bike Hub\, opposite the Ferry Terminal.\nRoute length: 7 km\nRecommended minimum rider age: 12 years. \n  \nRoute Description\nThis 7 km Christmas Lights Safari Ride takes you through the most festive parts of central Auckland. We begin at the Queens Wharf Bike Hub opposite the Ferry Terminal (near the Te Komititanga Christmas Tree)\, ride through the Viaduct’s Christmas Wonder Lane\, climb gently toward Freemans Bay\, and arrive at the highlight of the night: Franklin Road — one of New Zealand’s most iconic Christmas light displays. Riders will walk the Franklin Road section while bikes are supervised at the top. We then continue to Ponsonby Central for a hot chocolate or ice cream stop at the Chocolate Factory. From there\, the route heads along Ponsonby Rd\, K Rd\, drops back into the city\, passing through Aotea Square’s Christmas installation\, and finishes with a slow roll down the Queen Street Light Trail. \nSafety & Notes\n\nSome parts of the route use busy roads — parents should consider this before bringing younger children.\nRecommended minimum rider age: 12 years.\nEnsure your bike has good front and rear lights for night riding.\nReflective or bright clothing is strongly recommended.\nDecorate your bike with Christmas lights for fun and visibility.\nHelmets required by NZ law.\nRide pace will be relaxed with regular regroup points.\nFranklin Road will be walked\, not ridden — bikes will be supervised at the top.\nRide will proceed in light rain; severe weather may postpone for safety.\n\nPlease register by clicking here. This ride takes you through some beautiful reserves in Grey Lynn and on great new cycle paths in Point Chevalier. It is a relaxed 10 km loop mostly off-road with some short sections on roads. Suitable for any style of bicycle. Recommended minimum rider age is 12 years. SUMMARY:Bicycle Safari: Te Auaunga
DESCRIPTION:This event is by Puketāpapa Active Transport Haven and Bike Hub Mount Roskill. Registration required. \n  \nDetails. Saturday October 25th\, Start 9:00am Finish 12:00pm – Start at Molley Green Reserve close to the source of the Awa\, and finish at Waterview Reserve where the Awa empties into the Waitematā. \nRoute Description. This is a lovely 11km (one way) gentle ride on off road paths that will suit families and new riders. The ride will be fine for all levels of fitness. The suggestion for minimum rider age is 8 years. This route will be suitable for all types of bikes. \nOur guide and storyteller will be Wendy John\, Project Manager of Ngā Ringa o Te Auaunga – Friends of Oakley Creek established in 2004 to raise the profile of the Awa amongst the wider community\, and to increase recognition of the value and potential of Oakley Creek and its surrounds. We will stop at different points along the path where Wendy will tell us what has/will/might happen in that area. We will spend some time helping volunteers from Friends of Oakley Creek care for plants and trees that have recently been planted alongside the Awa. At the end of the ride\, there will be an opportunity for people to explore the Waterview Heritage Area. There will be an opportunity to make a koha to the mahi of Ngā Ringa o Te Auaunga – Friends of Oakley Creek. \nCoffee. The plan is to provide an after-ride coffee and light lunch nearby at Daily Bread\, will provide details closer to the time. A number of us will be riding back to Mt Roskill/Puketāpapa after lunch\, so if you plan to drive to the start\, you will have good company for the ride back. \nPlease note: While we have planned this ride very carefully\, responsibility for each person’s well-being is yours to manage. This is particularly the case with children. Each child must be accompanied by and be the responsibility of a caregiver. This ride is planned as a loop\, so if you need to be somewhere else before the suggested ending time\, you would need to plan your route if you were riding back early. DESCRIPTION:Hello friends\, our next ride will be a great opportunity to immerse yourselves in the beauty of the Manukau Harbour. As per the normal instructions\, please be prepared for weather\, it is winter. Unless the weather is so bad there is a health and safety risk\, we will be riding. \nStart/Finish will be at the Bikehub next to the Onehunga Train Station. So all being well\, you will be able to catch a train to and from the event.  \nTiming: We will start riding at 10:00am\, we should be back in Onehunga before midday. \nWhat kind of bike: You do not have to have an eBike for this ride\, it is around a 25km ride\, with few hills. We will be riding on gravel roads along the Watercare Coastal Walkway and the grass walking paths around the harbour edge of the Ambury Regional Park. There is a gravel road around the south side of Puketutu Island that will take us to a lookout point west toward the Manukau Heads. \nRoute: About three quarters of the route will be on off road shared paths. We start by riding across the new walking and cycling bridge\, Ngā Hau Māngere then along the Kiwi Esplanade to Ambury Farm. The route around the edge of the farm can be bumpy in places\, but you will be amazed that you can be out in the peaceful midst of the Manukau Harbour so close to the city. The Watercare Coastal Walkway offers excellent birdwatching\, especially for shorebirds wintering in the Manukau Harbour. Look for South Island pied oystercatchers\, wrybills\, New Zealand dotterels\, and pied stilts. SUMMARY:Maungakiekie Tāmaki & Ōrākei Bicycle Safari
DESCRIPTION:Intro: This ride will take in many of the lovely sites\, parks\, beaches\, and particularly the quality cycling infrastructure the Maungakiekie Tāmaki & Ōrākei Local Board Areas have to offer. \nStart/Finish will be at the Bike Hub Onehunga next to the Train Station\, we will finish at the Britomart Train Station. So all being well\, you will be able to catch a train to and from the event. \nTiming: We will start riding at 9:00am\, we should be at Britomart by around 1:30pm. \nWhat kind of bike: You do not have to have an eBike for this ride\, but it is around a 30km ride\, and we will encounter hills right after lunch. We will be riding on paved surfaces. \nWho should ride: We will be riding for a little under 3 hours\, so a reasonable level of fitness is required. While most of the ride is off road\, the sections we are on road are on busy areas so you will need to be comfortable with this. In saying that\, you will be in a guided group which makes thing easier.  \nRoute: Over three quarters of the route will be on off road shared paths. We start by riding along the edge of the Manukau Harbour from Onehunga to Penrose\, then along the path beside the express way to Sylvia Park. We have a short busy patch through the Sylvia Park Shopping Mall car park before getting onto the beautiful path around the Panmure Basin. There is a short ride on road before joining the wonderful path along the Tamaki River to the beginning of the path along the Tamaki River then up on to the new separated cycle paths along Taniwha St to the Glen Innes Village. We will stop in at the Bike Hub Glen Innes before having morning tea at the Glen Innes Starbucks on Aprirana Ave. Then after having had a rest and refreshments we climb up a cycle path that runs parallel to Felton Mathew Ave to St Johns Rd and the beginning of the ‘Te Ara Ki Uta Ki Tai’ (the path of land and sea) through Pourewa Valley\, over the Eastern rail line and through the Ōrākei Basin. That delivers us via paths along Paratai Drive onto the beautiful Tāmaki Drive path all the way to Britomart Station. \nCoffee: We will have morning tea at the Glen Innes Starbucks on Aprinana Ave. \nPlease register click here. SUMMARY:St Augustine's Ramblers and Riders - Centre City to Onehunga
DESCRIPTION:Intro: It has been a while since we have assembled and bicycled together. For some months the Onehunga train services have not been running due to the track replacement project. The services are now running again which makes the Waitemata Waterview Manukau Coast to Coast Ride viable for those who are not keen on the ride back to the start point at the Cloud. This means this magnificent 21km ride can be enjoyed by those who would prefer to ride a completely car free route! \nWho is it for? The distance will determine who will manage\, i.e. age wise. This is a great opportunity to see the best of Auckland’s beautiful harbours\, and the good quality cycling infrastructure that connects them. \nDetails: We will meet at Williams Eatery G03/85 Daldy St in Wynyard Quarter between 1:00 and 1:30pm for a light lunch. From there we will start riding by 2:30pm along the waterfront\, up the Nelson St cycleway\, the Pink Path\, the Ian McKinnon St cycleway\, then along the North-western Path to the Waterview Path. We will make the short but worthwhile diversion to take in the beautiful renaturalised section in Walmsley and Underwood reserves in Puketāpapa/Mt Roskill where we will rejoin the SH20 cycle path down to our destination in Taumanu Reserve in Onehunga Bay. This is a 21km ride with some hills\, none too strenuous. \nTiming: The ride will take around 1.5-2:00 hours depending on how much time we spend stopping and enjoy the surroundings. Those who wish to return via train to the start point can pedal up to the Onehunga Train Station and catch the next available train into town. We plan to be done by 4:00pm at the latest. \nAs always\, it is very helpful if you can register here so that we know you are coming. We don’t want to leave you behind. SUMMARY:Journey by bicycle along Oakley Creek
DESCRIPTION:Date: October 2nd\, 2022 \nTime: 9:00am – 12:00pm \nHaere mā runga paihikara mā Te Auaunga (Journey by bicycle along Oakley Creek) \nDetails. Sunday October 2nd\, Start 9:00am Finish 12:00pm – Start at Molley Green Reserve close to the source of the Awa\, and finish at Waterview Reserve where the Awa empties into the Waitematā. \nThis is a lovely 11km (one way) gentle ride on off road paths that will suit families and new riders. The ride will be fine for all levels of fitness. The suggestion for minimum rider age is 8 years. This route will be suitable for all types of bikes. \nOur guide and storyteller will be Wendy John\, the Project Manager of Ngā Ringa o Te Auaunga – Friends of Oakley Creek\, which was established in 2004 to raise the profile of the Awa amongst the wider community\, and to increase recognition of the value and potential of Oakley Creek and its surrounds. We will stop at different points along the path where Wendy will tell us what will/might happen in that area. We will spend some time helping volunteers from Friends of Oakley Creek care for plants and trees that have recently been planted alongside the Awa at Harbutt Reserve. At the end of the ride\, there will be an opportunity for people to explore the Waterview Heritage Area. There will be an opportunity to make a koha to the mahi of Ngā Ringa o Te Auaunga – Friends of Oakley Creek. \nCoffee. The plan is to provide an after-ride coffee and light lunch nearby at Daily Bread\, we will provide details closer to the time. A number of us will be riding back to Mt Roskill/Puketāpapa pa after lunch\, so if you plan to drive to the start\, you will have good company for the ride back. \nRegistration.
