SUMMARY:Woodhill Social Sunday Mtb Ride
DESCRIPTION:Auckland is at the red traffic light setting which means you need to be VAXED to attend this ride.\nPlease bring your vaccine pass and please don’t be offended if asked to check in on the vaccine checker\, either by Woodhill staff or ACG.\n \nThis a social ride. It is perfect if you have just done Rick’s course and want to work on those skills. It is also suitable for beginners\, building up your fitness/confidence or if you just want a social ride. We will warm up on the Family Loop and then head up the hill to split into groups depending on ability and inclination. The pace ranges from quite slow to nearly intermediate and the ride atmosphere is relaxed and everyone is welcome.\nThe ride can be between 1 and 2 hours long\, with turn around points if you decide you’ve had enough.\nEntry to Woodhill is $15 or less with a season pass.\nPlease register through meetup.com\nLooking forward to riding with you.\nLinda

SUMMARY:Sunday Woodhill Bi-weekly Ride - ACG
DESCRIPTION:Being the first ride back after lockdowns the pace on this ride will likely be slower and a little bit more social… to allow us to ease back into it.\nCome and join us for a bi weekly MTB ride at Woodhill on Saturdays.\nIn the unlikely event that none of the hosts can make it then a ride may be cancelled up to a few days before. Register through the meetup.com link for updates and contact tracing.\nSKILL LEVEL\nThis is a blend of Intermediate and Advanced riding and I envisage we will start with intermediate and likely split up into 2 smaller groups later in the morning to allow those who want to continue to focus on an intermediate level to do so while a few in the group seek out a couple more challenging trails to end the day. You can choose which level you wish to do.\nTRAILS\nMix of grade 3 & 4 through out the day but as mentioned above you can elect to do only 3’s and the odd easy 4 if you aren’t in the advanced camp\nFITNESS\nPost-lockdown easy pace – to ease back into it.\nWe won’t be treating these as uphill races\, the ride is more focused on the ride downhill so your uphill climbing speed is not critical though you must be fit enough to climb judgement call at least 2 times.\nACG operates a no drop policy which means we regroup at trail heads and trail ends to ensure everyone is safe and accounted for.\nWe will be out there for a few hours but it will be at a comfortable pace and will regroup for each other at junctions and top of hills.\n—————–\nMEETING POINT\nArrive and meet up at the BBQ tables in front of the main Woodhill MTB Park shop by or prior to 8.45am so everyone can have time to purchase park passes and get their equipment ready to ride by 9:00am.\nArriving early means you won’t be left behind – you can always grab a coffee and socialise with the other riders while we wait for the 9:00am start time.\nCasual pass $15 or you can buy 6 or 10 month passes.\nRegister through the meetup.com link for updates and contact tracing.

DESCRIPTION:1. Does the idea of the unknown excite you?\n2. Do you like the feel of being a maverick on a journey?\n3. Are you sick of the “same old” challenges each weekend and just looking for something a little bit different to break out of the norm?\n4. Are you intrigued by the prospect of riding bike trails others might not agree follow contemporary expectations? \nIf you answered YES then these rides might be for you! \nThese mystery rides are for capable riders who like to ride old school trails that aren’t seriously groomed or sculptured to within an inch of their flow riding lives. \nThis is real riding where you need to make your flow happen with your skill because the trails don’t just give it to you because you point the bike downhill. \nIf you love a challenge then join us for some fun exhilarating times. \nWHO’S IT FOR\nRiders who like a bit of off camber trail\, who enjoy tight twisty technical terrain with obstacles to conquer and don’t mind exerting a bit of energy\, or getting dirty (some mud is possible)\, or really using their brains when riding. \nDon’t expect massive sustained gravity descents\, but do be ready to see your up and down riding skills tested at every turn in the variable terrain that’s going to be on offer – plus expect your handling skills to grow exponentially as a result. \nTHE TRAILS\nThe trails we’ll ride may or may not be ridden on a lot these days for a variety of reasons…. which means they could be a little overgrown in places\, but they are definitely bike orientated trails that are intended to put your MTB riding skills to the test – and are guaranteed to deliver fun exciting satisfying times. \nI promise there is nothing truly scary\, just worthy challenges. \nWHAT BIKES\nOnly suitable for proper knobbly mountain bikes (no hybrids\, or road bikes) \nAND YOU\nMust be confident riding variable terrain\, and think every obstacle is simply there for you to conquer. \nWHERE\nLocated in and around the north shore region – exact riding/meeting locations will be provided to RSVP’d riders the evening prior on a need to know basis to maintain the required air of mystery. \nWhat happens on tour stays on tour\, but feel free to tell your friends too join us if they dare.

SUMMARY:Te Miro Mtb Park
DESCRIPTION:Please register for this event through the Meetups website. \nAbout Te Miro \nThe Te Miro MTB park is a smallish trail network\, but well designed\, built and maintained by the Te Miro MTB club. It is between Cambridge and Morrinsville – about 150km from Auckland\, so close enough for a day trip from Auckland and there is at least 3-4 hours of riding to make it worth the trip. There are trails from grade 2 to grade 4. \nWhat to expect \nWe will be meeting at the Te Miro Mountain Bike car park. You should aim to arrive in time to be ready to ride by 10am. It is a good idea to try and car pool where possible since the car park is relatively small. Post comments below to offer\, accept or request rides. \nDepending on the size of the group we may break into 2 or more groups of similar skill/fitness levels. Each group will stop to regroup at intersections and at the start and end of all trails. \nWhat to bring \nBring enough water for about 3-4 hours of riding. Bring snacks to keep energy levels up.\nLunch – we will keep riding till 1:30/2PM-ish\, taking small rest & snack breaks\, then meet for lunch back at the picnic tables just below the car park.\nEITHER: Bring a packed lunch.\nOR: We will use their built-in BBQ. BYO food & drink. Post comments in Meetups if you can bring items for the group e.g. BBQ utensils. \nBringe spare tube\, pump\, tools etc.\, they are always a good thing to carry on any ride… \nSuitable for mountain bikes.

We start and end on the Cascades Pathway and use a section of the Rotary Path. \nAny type of bike will do\, although there are short sections of gravel path\, steps and a few steep hills so a reasonable level of fitness is required. Also beneficial for your own safety are lights\, helmet\, a bell and bright clothing. \nAssuming its high tide and warm we could go for a swim at Eastern Beach or grab an ice cream or coffee. \nPark at the reserve and play ground opposite 60 Gosford Drive\, Botany Downs. Please be early and ready to ride on time.

SUMMARY:Henderson Twin Streams 33km
DESCRIPTION:Please register for this ride through the Meetups website. \nHello\, This is ride 3 of 4 as part of the Auckland Transport Bike Month series where new members get a free coffee! \nThis mostly flat ride is 90% cycle path and starts from Phyllis Reserve. \nWe will use the NW cycle path until the Henderson turn off\, then weave our way all the way to Henderson Valley Road through country landscapes. \nFrom there we use some quiet roads to get the Oratia Stream shared path and reconnect with Henderson Creek path at the West Wave Aquatic Centre. \nWith the option to ride the Oakley Creek Reserve walkway and past the waterfall on the way back. For those who have not ridden this before its concrete but narrow\, windy with steep bits and bumpy in places. It is very scenic as the attached photos in the Meetups event page show. \nWe could have coffee and cake at the Corban Estate cafe or similar on the way through or back. \nAny bike type and fitness level will do.

SUMMARY:Saint Heliers Bay to Onehunga Loop - 50km
DESCRIPTION:Please register for this event through the Meetups website.\nHello\, This is ride 2 of 4 as part of the Auckland Transport Bike Month series where new members get a free coffee!\nThis has been a very popular event enjoyed by many. As last time\, we will leave as two groups\, one at a leisurely pace of 15-20kmph and the other at a quicker pace of 20-25kmph. A good level of fitness is required!\nThe ride will be on 95% quiet roads and cycle paths or lanes (50/50 path/road) with regular regrouping so that nobody gets left behind. Road\, ebike or Cyclocross bikes would be preferable.\nWe will park at St Heliers Bay by Vellenoweth Green and ride along the water front to the city. Then up the Nelson Street path and onto the Lightpath followed by the North-Western path to the Waterview and South-Western path to Onehunga. Finally the foreshore path to Penrose and return to St Heliers Bay for a well deserved coffee or beer and a catchup with the other group.\nAlso for your own safety I recommend a helmet\, lights\, a bell\, bright clothing and confidence on the road.\nIf you cant make this ride I will be listing it again shortly.

If numbers are low I may move it back to Sundays.\nENSURE you can attend all 6 dates listed below\nThis MTB Skills Boot Camp was run every year since 2014. It has proved to be a very popular event with our riders who have benefited greatly from receiving instruction\, tips and general training on fundamental MTB skills.\nREVIEW TRAINEE COMMENTS: See what trainees have been saying about the course in the comments section for an early run course here.\nWhile you will certainly get better by going out on the group rides\, & I’m a great supporter of time in the saddle being key to building ability\, there are some fundamental skills that our novice riders could & should be learning from the beginning which would supercharge their confidence in leaps and bounds.\nBTW – don’t confuse the word ‘Novice’ with the term ‘Beginner’. I use the term Novice to describe a skill level not the length of time you have been riding. I know that even if you’ve been riding for some time now (without any formal training) that these sessions will be an big eye opener in regards to the bad habits you probably have that are limiting your skill advancement.\nThis is a 6 part “SEQUENTIAL” series so to really benefit from it you need to attend ALL sessions which means you need to be truly motivated\, committed and enthusiastic participants. Keep this in mind when RSVP’ing\nIMPORTANT NOTE: I will only be inviting those that are RSVP’d for this first session to the future 5 remaining sessions. So you have to be on this RSVP list by the close off (MONDAY 5th OCTOBER) to ensure your spot is secured for future invites.\nALSO This is very much a sequential course so you cannot realistically come on part way through so if you miss one of the sequential sessions you will not be able to do the next one as you won’t have learnt the skills required to proceed.\nThe Boot Camp will be a series of 6 Consecutive Training Sessions which will focus primarily on instructing and building up your fundamental MTB skills to make you a better\, faster more confident rider on the forest tracks.\nEssentially taking you from an unskilled Novice to a Skilled Novice.\nYou will need to attend all 6 sessions as they will progress you step by step through a series of fundamental elements (meaning each session is different) & is intended to lift your skill level each time so you are proficient enough to progress to the next set of skills to be covered.\nSome sessions may be ridden on proper tracks & be a semi normal ride scenario\, but others might not even put you on a track at all\, & some may be a repetition of a small section of trail to intensly target the skills required – it all depends on what you will be learning at the time.\nThe Course runs Saturday Mornings\, on staggered dates either 1 or 2 weeks apart to work around holidays and other commitments. You will receive around 24-27 hours of instruction in total.\nSession times may vary depending on other commitments and also suitable location requirements for specific training sessions etc. However I always try to maintain a certain level of consistency wherever possible to ensure attendees have the best possible chance of attending all sessions in this sequence (see schedule below).\n**** DATES TO PUT IN THE DIARY!!! ****\nThe 6 Sessions in this Novice Course will cover the following subjects (in the following order):\n1] Sat 13th Feb 2021 – Back to Basics @ Auckland Domain\n2] Sat 27th Feb 2021 – Skill Drills and Quick Tips @ Auckland Domain\n3] Sat 6th Mar 2021 – How to Brake Safely @ Totora Park\n4] Sat 20th Mar 2021 – Cornering Techniques\, Climbing & Timing @ Woodhill\n5] Sat 27th Mar 2021 – Obstacles & Importance of Confidence @ TBC\n6] Sat 10th Apr 2021 – Drops/Downhills\, Attitude & Pulling it together @ TBC\n*******\nAll sessions are a minimum of 4-4.5 hours in duration and will generally start in the AM (8.00am-12.30pm). With 6 sessions of 4+ hours each means you receive around 27hrs of targeted instruction.\nCOST:\nThis is not a money making exercise for me as such (more a way of getting our members to be better/safer riders) however I do charge a small $15.00 fee per person/per session to cover my travel costs and some of my time in a small way as it is quite a commitment for me to put this on at this time of the year.\nPAYMENT:\nYou will need to pay the FULL $90\, 6 SESSION FEE at the beginning to ensure you are committed. You can pay that $90 fee on the 1st day of the course. If you would prefer to pay online by bank transfer please message me directly requesting bank details in the week prior to the Course starting.\nNOTE: venues for this course will change at certain times\, the first 2 sessions will be held at the Auckland Domain simply because it is central (so more accessible to all) & offers suitable terrain to provide the training to be covered in those sessions. As we progress we will start going further a field.\nREMEMBER THIS COURSE WILL ONLY RUN IF WE REACH A MIN of 15 PARTICIPANTS\, so if you want this to happen invite a friend to join you to up numbers.\nDisclaimer: I don’t rate myself as a guru or anything so grandiose\, I’m simply an enthusiastic & confident intermediate rider\, however I’m pretty sure I am experienced enough to impart a certain degree of valuable advice to any beginner who wishes to significantly improve their knowledge and skill base. What you do with that knowledge is up to you.

SUMMARY:Mt Pirongia Mtb Trails
DESCRIPTION:Please register for this event through the Meetups website.\nThe location: The Mt Pirongia MTB park is a small well designed and built MTB park close to the town of Pirongia approx 2hrs/200km from the Auckland cbd and is close enough for a day trip from Auckland. It is managed and maintained by the Waipa MTB club with around 10 trails from grade 2 to grade 5 for at least 3-4 hours of riding to make it worth the trip.\nWhere and when: We will be meeting at the Sainsbury Road MTB car park which is at the very end of Sainsbury Road on Mt Pirongia. There is a sign post to the MTB Trails at the southern end of the town of Pirongia. There is limited parking in the area by the shelter/toilet so please try and carpool if possible. You should aim to be there and READY to ride by 10:00 when we will have a brief introduction and ride briefing before heading out.\nWhat to bring: Besides your usual riding gear bring a tube\, pump and tools to make basic repairs if required and enough water for about 3-4 hours of riding and snacks during the ride as well as a packed lunch. There is a cafe/bakery in Pirongia if you want to grab something on the way. Bring a chilly bin if you like to keep your lunch and drinks cool as we will probably go back to the car for lunch at about 12:00 for around half an hour.\n* If you want to do the shuttle the cost is $5 per uplift – please bring cash as they do not have Eftpos faculties *\nA gold coin donation to the club who have an honesty box at the carpark will bring you good trail Karma for your day of free riding!\nThe ride plan: We will ride together as a group with the usual no drop policy to check out most of the trails and conditions before Lunch. If you don’t want to ride the harder trails we may break into a couple of groups of similar skill/fitness levels. Because there are only around 10 trails in total at the park we will be riding most of them at least twice. Each group will stop to regroup at the start and end of all trails. Then after lunch lets get a bit crazy and have a free-for-all ride where you can decide which trails you want to ride for the next couple of hours and look at finishing and regrouping back at the carpark by 2:30. Remember to ALWAYS ride with at least ONE riding partner!\nPost ride: You can either head home afterwards or you are welcome to join some of us at the pub/café in Pirongia after the ride at around 3pm for a debrief and feedback of the days riding!\nAny questions please ask away on Meetups!
