CANDo is where Aotearoa’s cycling changemakers come together to shape the future of streets, communities and active transport advocacy. CAN stands for Cycling Action Network, New Zealand’s national network of cycling  advocate groups. CANDo is all about shaping a safer, healthier, more joyful cycling future for Aotearoa.

This year, Bike Auckland is proud to host the conference in Tāmaki Makaurau.

What happens at CANDo?

Over one weekend in the Covert Theatre in Ponsonby, attendees will get to hear a range of inspirational speakers with lots of useful information and strategies to help people get better cycling amenities in their neighbourhoods. There will also be a shared ride on the Saturday to check out some of Auckland’s new cycling infrastructure. It’s the chance to meet fellow advocates, exchange ideas, build relationships that strengthen cycling advocacy nationwide and maybe change the world.

Organiser and Bike Auckland Co-chair Donna Wynd shares:

“CANDo isn’t just about talking and strategising. It’s about the ripple effect it creates long after everyone rides home. It’s a stronger, more connected movement: advocates leaving energised, skilled, and supported, ready to spark change in their own communities.”

Speakers from public policy and health research will be sharing their work, as well as powerful voices from the media, and leaders of impactful community projects. A 1-hour workshop will delve into CAN’s strategy, giving attendees the chance to shape the organisation’s direction. There will be time for informal networking with peers from around the country, as well as fun in the form of group rides and evening social activities.

2026 Theme: Quiet Revolution

Quiet Revolution is a celebration of the steady, determined progress communities across Aotearoa are making for better biking. Progress that continues even when national politics and media narratives push against it.

Transformation doesn’t always arrive with fanfare – sometimes it grows quietly, powerfully, from the ground up.

Wynd says:

“Quiet Revolution is when new collaborations form across the motu, people share strategies that lift everyone’s impact, and there’s a renewed sense of collective purpose in the face of national headwinds. It’s people returning home with sharper tools, bigger networks, and a deeper belief that the Quiet Revolution is real – and growing.”

Quiet Revolution honours the advocates who keep showing up, building change street by street, conversation by conversation.

Who is CANDo for?

Advocates, community leaders, changemakers, researchers, organisers, communicators, those working in climate and urbanism, planners, and passionate riders from across the motu.

You don’t have to be a member of CAN to attend.

Why should people come to CANDo?

CANDo is the one weekend where you can recharge your passion, sharpen your advocacy skills, and join people nationwide shaping a better cycling future for Aotearoa. It’s where the conversations which pedal us forward happen.

Let’s connect, learn, and energise the national push for better biking.

See you there.
