Not every day a girl gets hugged by Vodafone Warriors in her work for cycling! 🙂 And it doesn’t get much more feel good than this week’s opening of the East Tamaki Primary School’s Bike On track.

MC was Peter McGlashan from the Glenn Family Foundation, moving to make cycling in Otara happen. They are also building a track in Preston Reserve next to Rongomai School (good for BMXers too). Their big project is the Ngati Otara Park bike track for local schools, families and commuters.

Kerri Wells and Counties Manukau Sport along with BikeNZ have big plans for these kids – they’ll get cycle skills training and have the chance to become Weetbix kids, downhill mountain bike or BMX champions!

The Vodafone Warriors at the opening worked on this track. After a big feed from the schools Garden to Table kitchen the Warriors went along to Preston Road to start building the next bike track.

There’s a growing peleton of organizations and sponsors lining up to get NZ kids riding bikes as a basic life skill. The track and 61 new bikes and helmets have been donated to the school by Glenn Family Foundation, East Tamaki Rotary, Variety Club, Warehouse and others. This is a real demonstration of collaboration with Otara Papatoetoe Local Board, Auckland Transport, CMSport, BikeNZ, Auckland Council Parks and more!

Google Bike On and be impressed. Thanks Paul McArdle – you are a NZ cycling great! Changing NZ for cycling for generations!
