Have you heard of William Walker – the heroic deep sea diver who performed miracles from 1906- 1912 under Winchester Cathedral to repair the building’s subsiding foundations.
He came to mind when I heard about the work underway on the Causeway as part of the rebuild for our classy new cycleway.
‘Why?’ you ask – the link for me was news we have men in a cage working under the Whau Bridge.
Here’s the official story from our lovely friend, Sarah Price, the Causeway Alliance Comms person on the job.
Over the next two weeks the Causeway Alliance will be doing some intermittent work underneath the Whau River Bridge. This work will entail a person being on a platform or “cage” (photo attached), which will be held up by a crane.
To do this work as safely as possible there will be a person positioned on the cycleway to ensure the cage or crane hook does not enter the cycleway and into the path of oncoming cyclists.
We will also be doing some work on the light poles in the same area. During this work we will have a “stop/go” person at either end of the work to make sure that cyclists don’t cross paths with the lifting of heavy light poles.
Both of these pieces of work will be done outside of peak cyclist travel times to ensure as little disruption as possible. We recognise that this is currently a particularly narrow area on the cycleway, so we appreciate your patience and cooperation.
Warm regards,
Sarah
