We’ve said before that the Causeway Alliance team expanding SH 16 and upgrading our NW Cycleway are some our best buddies. Elizabeth, the Alliance’s Communications boss, always has us in mind. She knows that cyclists matter, as she is dealing with the busiest commuter cycle route in Auckland (and possibly the country). I rode from town to Te Atatu on Friday, and was super- impressed by how friendly and responsive the Alliance staff manning the gates and working alongside the Cycleway were. All their actions showed they will make our travel is as pleasant and uninterrupted as practicable. That’ s quite a feat, when you consider the vast scale of the construction works happening around and dwarfing our vital and heroic cycleway.
Here’s Elizabeth’s latest message –
This weekend: motorway on-ramp closed and cycleway remains open
The Great North Road westbound on-ramp to State Highway 16 (the northwestern) will be closed to traffic this weekend from 9pm Friday to 5am Monday. That will enable the Causeway Alliance team to complete the next stage in the upgrade of the on-ramp, which is part of the Causeway Upgrade Project. Extensive signage and messaging is visible in the Great North Road area this week to advise motorists to use alternate routes. Detours will be clearly marked.
The cycleway will remain fully open during the closure of the motorway on-ramp.
