SUMMARY:Brown Womxn Who Cycle
DESCRIPTION:Do you identify as a womxn of colour? \nEver wanted to try cycling for fun? Already cycling\, commuting and/or want to meet like minded people? \nCome join Louise Tu’u\, a Samoan recreational cyclist and director of We Should Practice\, who knows how much fun it is to ride on a bike and wants to share her love and enthusiasm so that other ethnic women can ride push or e-bikes. \nWe have a line-up of amazing guest speakers\, who we will reveal closer to the time. They are all womxn of colour and understand the unique opportunities and challenges that we face when cycling. \nNote: We use the word womxn to avoid the suggestion of sexism perceived in the spelling sequences m-a-n and m-e-n\, and to be inclusive of trans women and nonbinary people.\nOtahuhu Recreational Sports Society is just off the beautiful shared walking and cycle path of Station Road\, so we encourage you to cycle on your bike. Enjoy this relaxed and organised gathering to meet and connect with other riders. Light refreshments will be available. There is limited car parking\, as there is a busy tournament for the club at the same time. \nIf you don’t cycle or don’t know how\, please come. We would love to meet\, connect and motivate you to find out where you can develop bike skills in your community and access/hire/buy a bike. \nIf you don’t have a bike and would like one\, please grab a ticket be in the draw to win one secondhand and serviced push bike for FREE\, which we will give away at our gathering. \nBonus: All participants for the draw must have a functioning bike helmet\, lock and lights on the day in order to win. Otherwise\, there will be a redraw. SUMMARY:Auckland Fancy Women Bike Ride
DESCRIPTION:FANCY. FIERCE. FUN. \nYou are invited to join the Auckland Fancy Women Bike Ride on Sunday\, September 17th!\nBecause women can change the world\, and the bicycle can help.\nFancy Women Bike Ride is an event for women\, organized by women to call for infrastructure and inspiration.\nThe more women who cycle\, the more women will be encouraged to cycle. \nDon’t forgot to use #fwbrakl23 for all your photos! \nThe Route:\nPlease be at “Domain Wintergardens” at 1pm and please don’t be late. \nWe will kick off the ride at 1pm from the stunning Domain Wintergardens. Pedaling over the iconic Grafton Bridge\, we will make our way to the vibrant and eclectic Karangahape Road. We will then capture picture-perfect moments when we cycle along the Lightpath | Te Ara I Whiti. The journey will end at Silo Park where we will have some refreshments. \nA map showing the route will be posted on the event’s page closer to the date. \nGUIDELINES:\n– Dress code: Fancy\, fierce\, fabulous (whatever makes you feel beautiful\, strong and great!)\n– Decorate your bicycle\, pose for the cameras and take selfies\, greet & smile at people during the ride.\n– Be inclusive to all women and support those new to cycling.\n– Bring your friends\, mothers\, aunties and sisters and be prepared for a magical afternoon. \nNo registration required. You just need a bike.\nMen can join so long as they ride with us\, not ahead of us. We ask men to dress up as well.\nThe term women in FWBR and all associated references is inclusive of all who self identify as a woman. \nChildren are welcome so long as they are capable of riding a bike by themselves.\nDogs on leads welcome! \n@ridebeamnz has kindly offered us some free bikes. SUMMARY:Whau Women on Wheels - Learn to Ride Course
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a fun session of empowerment\, friendship\, and the joy of pedalling together. \nTailored for women in the Whau area – New Windsor\, Avondale\, Glenavon\, Blockhouse Bay\, Green Bay\, New Lynn\, and Kelston.\nThis Bronze Bike Skills course is great for beginners. You’ll learn how to balance on a bike\, how to pedal independently\, and some basic bike handling skills. It’s a great option for anyone who hasn’t ridden before or for anyone who hasn’t been on a bike in a while. \nSuitable for women 14 years old and over. \nWhat to bring:\nWear closed toe shoes\, bring a rain jacket (you never know with Auckland weather!)\, a drink bottle\, and your own bike and helmet if they have one (if not we can provide one). \nEvent brought to you by the Whau Ethnic Collective and thanks to support from the Whau Climate Action Network and the Whau Local Board.\nThis event will be delivered by Bigfoot Adventures. \nCost: Free – But you must book a ticket to secure your place as spaces are limited.
