DESCRIPTION:After August’s ride got rained off\, we’re trying again. It will be spring and daylight saving is only a couple of weeks away.\nPut lights and reflectors on your bike (and yourself) and come for a ride along the shared path from Mission Bay to St Heliers and back(with a detour).\nMeet 6.30pm at the clock tower.\nAfterwards we can either have a bite in Mission Bay or head into town.\nWe want it to be a bike party\, showing people that you don’t have to take your car if you’re going out on a Saturday evening. It’s also a good chance to see what people are using to make themselves more visible at night and talk to others about their lighting.\nThe essentials are:\nYou need a bike and the attitude that you are going to enjoy yourself. Lights are essential. Everything else is optional.\nOptional stuff:\nA Bluetooth speaker and your favourite tunes\nA bike lit up like a Christmas tree\nAn outrageous costume\nHow it works:\nWe meet up at the start location and get organised and wait for any stragglers.\nHop on our bikes and follow the leader towards town\, turn around at the Tamaki Yacht Club then head to St Heliers and ride back to the start. From there\, those will kids can head home and the rest of us do what we feel like. \nFAQ\nWhat does it cost? Zip\, zilch\, nada\, nothing.\nHow long will it take? We will be riding slowly but the aim is to be back at the start by 8.00 pm at the latest.\nCan I leave any time? Yes\, head home whenever you feel like it.\nIs anything happening after? Nothing is organised\, but you can meet up with others going your way and carry on the party all the way home.\nCan I bring friends? Of course\, everyone is welcome.\nCan I bring my E-bike? Of course E-bikes are welcome.\nWhat’s the minimum age? There’s no minimum age but kids should be able confidently ride a bike the full distance. You can carry younger ones on a bike seat it trailer. You are responsible for your children\, this is not a drop and leave event.\nWill it be safe? Experienced riders will be at the front and back. The entire trail is off road and on sealed paths. Only two driveways to cross (twice).\nThere will be a small first aid kit available and also someone who can do basic bike repairs.\nWho is organising this and who is paying for it? The event is organised by a group of volunteers from Bike Eastern Suburbs\, and Bike East Auckland.\nWhat if it rains? If we’re going to cancel\, we will post on the Event page and Bike Eastern Suburbs Facebook page before 4pm on the day.\nRules: We try and keep rules to a minimum.\n1. Give way to all other path users.\n2. No alcohol – we want it kid friendly.\n3. Keep left and please don’t overtake the lead rider.\n4. There are a couple of driveways to cross in Mission Bay. SUMMARY:Christmas Lights Safari Ride
DESCRIPTION:This event is by Puketāpapa Active Transport Haven. Registration required. \nDetails\nDate: Saturday 20 December. Start 8:00pm – Finish approx 10:00pm.\nStart and finish at the Queens Wharf Bike Hub\, opposite the Ferry Terminal.\nRoute length: 7 km\nRecommended minimum rider age: 12 years. \n  \nRoute Description\nThis 7 km Christmas Lights Safari Ride takes you through the most festive parts of central Auckland. We begin at the Queens Wharf Bike Hub opposite the Ferry Terminal (near the Te Komititanga Christmas Tree)\, ride through the Viaduct’s Christmas Wonder Lane\, climb gently toward Freemans Bay\, and arrive at the highlight of the night: Franklin Road — one of New Zealand’s most iconic Christmas light displays. Riders will walk the Franklin Road section while bikes are supervised at the top. We then continue to Ponsonby Central for a hot chocolate or ice cream stop at the Chocolate Factory. From there\, the route heads along Ponsonby Rd\, K Rd\, drops back into the city\, passing through Aotea Square’s Christmas installation\, and finishes with a slow roll down the Queen Street Light Trail. \nSafety & Notes\n\nSome parts of the route use busy roads — parents should consider this before bringing younger children.\nRecommended minimum rider age: 12 years.\nEnsure your bike has good front and rear lights for night riding.\nReflective or bright clothing is strongly recommended.\nDecorate your bike with Christmas lights for fun and visibility.\nHelmets required by NZ law.\nRide pace will be relaxed with regular regroup points.\nFranklin Road will be walked\, not ridden — bikes will be supervised at the top.\nRide will proceed in light rain; severe weather may postpone for safety.\n\nPlease register by clicking here. Note for the 1st time we will be restricting numbers to 15 so as to ensure everyone has a good time in the downtown environment. If more register we will hold a 2nd ride on Sunday 21st.
