Once again\, we’ll be using the world famous V8 track to start and finish the races.\nFor more information and to register to ride\, visit: http://countiescycleclassic.co.nz/\nThe Counties Cycle Classic caters for all levels: serious riders can take on the 92km challenge\, there’s a 52km course for those looking for a bit of a challenge\, and the shorter 42km course for casual riders.\nAs well as the traditional rides\, the Classic has a special e-bike section where riders are challenged to get as close as they can to a pre-set time; and rides for children around the V8 track – definitely an experience to share at school talks.\nAbout the Counties Cycle Classic\nFast becoming a fixture on the cycling calendar\, the event organized by the Rotary Club of Pukekohe Inc. is shaping up to be even bigger and better this year. Organiser Graham Russell says the Classic has again been well supported by sponsorship from local businesses and a grant from the Franklin Local board of Auckland Council. As a Rotary initiative\, every dollar raised goes to charity and youth sports.\nDay and Time\nThis year’s Counties Cycle Classic will be held on Sunday 13 October 2019\, just a couple of weeks ahead of the K2 on the Coromandel and about six weeks before the Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge\, which is also a Rotary initiative. So it’s a perfect warm-up opportunity to start getting yourself in shape.\nDetails\nDistances are the same as last year: 42km\, 52km\, 97km plus a time trial for electric bikes on the 52km course.\nThe ride is on roads with very little traffic and great scenery\, and there’s also the opportunity for children to ride around the V8 track whilst the cycle races are out on the road\, so all in all it’s a great family day out.\nFor timing of the races\, and details of entry fees\, visit the Counties Cycle Classic website.\nWhat participants said about last year’s Counties Cycle Classic \n\nIt was really enjoyable and well managed. DESCRIPTION:Learn to ride a tandem bike with people who are blind or have low vision. \nTandem pilots bring the joy of cycling to people who are blind or have low vision\, who may otherwise be excluded from cycling. Tandems benefit people with other disabilities too. For people who can’t cycle alone\, a tandem is a great solution. \nWhat is tandem piloting for people who are blind or have low vision?\nThe vision impaired rider or ‘stoker’ sits at the back of the tandem and provides muscle power. The pilot steers the tandem and rides in close communication with the stoker. \nAbout the session\nCome along to Silo Park where we’ll be using the safe space of the basketball courts for your 30-minute lesson on how to pilot a tandem. After your lesson\, you will have the opportunity for free practice on the tandem with the experienced stokers who are available to help. \nYou’ll also have the chance to meet a high performance tandem pairing who represent Aotearoa internationally at Para cycling competitions. \nBikes will be provided. Bring your helmet if you have one\, or use one of our spares. \nWhat can you do with your new tandem piloting skills?\nOnce trained\, you will be able to use your skills as a pilot rider with people in your own life\, or take up volunteer opportunities such as providing tandem piloting for vision impaired riders on group rides around our region\, recreationally or competitively in the Para sport space. \nHelp spread the word about this event\nUse this Learn to Pilot a Tandem event poster to share this event with your network.

DESCRIPTION:This event is by Franklin Active Trails. \nA choice of two simultaneous bike rides along and beyond the freshly opened Te Ara O Puuriri Trail. Routes will be available on the day and via Ride with GPS links. Both options include unsealed trail sections however most is on quiet sealed roads. If you are a big fan of MTB trails you can include an extension of incorporating the Puni MTB circuit through the pines adding a further 5km to the journey. \nWhen: Sunday Oct 12th\, 8.00am \nWhere Start:  Bledisloe Park\, Johns St by playground and soccer clubrooms.  \nWhere Finish: Your Local Coffee Roasters Pukekohe\, Cnr Nelson & Manukau Rd \nOption 1: 1 Summit 11 Km Circuit west to Te Ara O Puuriri\, (Summit Adams Rd South\, Belmont) \nOption 2: 3 Summits 17 – 20 Km circuit. West to Te Ara O Puuriri\, South to Puni Reserve Summit\, Attewell Rd\, east to Pukekohe Hill Summit\, downhill to Local Coffee Roasters. \n \nHealth & Safety\n\nWear high visibility clothing. (We are riding on trails and quieter roads but there are several busy main roads to cross).\nAll children under the age of 14 must be supervised by an adult\nAll people taking part in this ride do so at their own risk\, will ride independently and will not be supervised or guided.\n\n \nBackground\nTe Ara Puuriri starts at the top of one of the Pukekohe 5 Summits established by Pukekohe Tramping Club as part of their 50th celebrations. Franklin Active Trails and Whakaupoko Landcare have built on this initiative. A forgotten weedy and pesty woolly nightshade forest has been converted into a puriri forest with fun walking and cycle trails\, offering a circuit connection with the Pukekohe 5 Summits and a link to the 6th summit of Puni Reserve. \nCome and check it out. \nRead some further background about the trail here. \n \nA note about getting there from the Auckland City Centre:\nThe start point is just 500m from the Pukekohe Railway Station. There is a train that arrives at Pukekohe at 7.44am. The train starts at down town Auckland Waitemata Stn at 6.30am. Return Trains leave at 20 minute intervals.

DESCRIPTION:Bike Kaipatiki is excited to announce a new partnership with Wairau Zero Waste Hub! We’ll be hosting regular bike repair days to rescue bikes from the waste stream and get them back into the community. \nThese bikes will then be donated to our community partners who help people in need. \nJoin us on the 3rd Saturday of every month (except December and January) from 9am to 1pm! \nWhile public servicing isn’t available on these days\, we encourage everyone to come down and see what we’re doing. We also welcome volunteers of all skill levels to lend a hand! It’s a great opportunity to learn new skills and gain experience fixing bikes. \nNo pressure to stay the whole time\, and you don’t need to attend every month. \nFeel free to pop in for a bit or the whole session\, and come whenever you’re available. \nHave questions? \nPlease reach out to us and we’ll be happy to chat! \nLet’s work together to reduce waste and get more people on bikes!

Everyone is welcome to come and explore all kinds of bikes such as handcycles\, recumbent bikes\, trikes\, tandems and more in a welcoming\, inclusive environment. \n \nThere will be workshops to teach you how to ride a tandem cycle. SUMMARY:Waiheke: Mountain Bike Sampler
DESCRIPTION:This event is by Cycle Action Waiheke. Registration required. \n  \nAre you mountain bike curious? Do you have a bike but don’t know how to get started trail-riding? Do you look longingly at the bush-clad hills of Onetangi Sports Park and wish you could get amongst it on two wheels? Mountain biking is so much fun – it’s great for physical and mental health\, gets you out into nature\, and is so exciting and exhilarating (NOT scary – unless you want it to be!). Come along to our Mountain Bike Sampler day at Onetangi Sports Park and give it a go with guidance from experienced riders. We’ll start with some basic skills on the field before hitting the Grade 1 Family Track for a couple of laps. Then we can break into two groups – those who want to head up the hill for something more adventurous can do so\, while those happy to keep practicing on the Family Track can stick with that. No one will be left behind or pressured to do anything they are not comfortable with. \nRiders of all ages are welcome. You will need a bike in reasonable condition (preferably with front suspension) and a helmet. And water! \nPlease make sure that you check your and your children’s bikes in advance\, and bring them to Bike Hub for maintenance if necessary. We can’t bring kids out with bikes that don’t work\, and don’t want to disappoint on the day!
