SUMMARY:Working together towards sustainable events
DESCRIPTION:Join Bike Auckland and industry leaders from Tātaki Auckland Unlimited\, Rescued Kitchen\, and Clean Event for a critical webinar on sustainable event management. \n \nWe tackle the challenges and opportunities in improving environmental impacts like transport\, catering\, and waste management. Get insights into industry developments and hear success stories about sustainable practices in events. \nSpeakers include: \nIsabel Emerson – Climate Change & Sustainability Advisor\, Tātaki Auckland Unlimited\nIsabel manages and delivers various climate and sustainability projects aligning to Te Tāruke-ā-Tāwhiri: Auckland’s Climate plan. Working at Tāmaki Makaurau’s economic and cultural agency\, she provides climate change and sustainability matter expertise to kaimahi (colleagues)\, including events such as Lantern\, Pasifika\, Diwali and FIFA WWC 2023. Prior to this\, she managed the 2021 Sustainable Business Awards which recognises and celebrates success in sustainability. Isabel also shapes environmental practices from a strategic level\, playing a role in both IEMA-NZ’s Steering Group and the NZEA Sustainable Events Working Group\, formed to drive positive change in the events industry. \nDiane Stanbra – Founder and Head of Getting Things Done\, Rescued Limited\nRescued is leading the multi-billion dollar Upcycled Food market in New Zealand and collaborating with the food and beverage industry to design an Upcycled Food Ecosystem. A member of the Upcycled Food Association (US)\, XLabs NZ – Circular Economy for Business certified\, and participant in the Ellen MacArthur Foundation Big Food Redesign Challenge. Diane has a background in finance\, business development\, customer relationship\, sales\, and an established industry network. \nShaz Seton – Clean Event\nClean Event is an industry leader in event waste management. We hope this will provide you insight\, ideas and connections for making progress. \nJoin us for this insightful and inspiring conversation by registering below and spreading the word! We look forward to seeing your questions submitted before the event. \nNgā mihi\, \nBike Auckland and friends 🙂

SUMMARY:Advocating for Bike Infrastructure - A Bike Auckland Community Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join Bike Auckland for our next event to help you build capacity to advocate for your cycling community! \nPippa Coom is a former Auckland Councillor and Local Board Chair who came to politics in 2010 via her cycle activism with Bike Auckland. Since then she has been a champion for safer streets\, transport options and community-led decision making. \nPippa’s presentation draws on her experience leading on projects through council processes and her on-going campaigning work. The Inner West projects that are currently underway after a decade of multiple consultations\, delays and vocal opposition provide a case study for how community advocates can build capacity to meaningfully engage\, influence decision makers and navigate the set-backs on the path to successful community outcomes. \nThis will be a facilitated workshop so that we can get some real ideas and inspiration on paper! A three hour gathering\, there will be time to meet your neighbours and strengthen your own connections\, while we discover ways to make others throughout the community and build capacity for your Bike Burb!

SUMMARY:Bupa Healthy Cities Challenge — Flat White Ride (West Auckland)
DESCRIPTION:West Auckland’s Flat White Ride is back — a free map connecting around 10 routes (roughly 65km all up) between New Lynn\, Avondale\, Henderson\, Glen Eden\, Titirangi\, Green Bay and the Te Whau pathway. It’s a mixed bag for a mixed bunch of riders: flat off-road shared paths\, a few hillier on-road stretches\, and one scenic gravel track through the Waitākere Ranges (kauri dieback tyre-washing applies). \nThis September\, EcoMatters has partnered with Bupa for the Healthy Cities Challenge: ride\, walk\, scoot or skate any part of the route\, then enter online and share a photo of your outing. Every entry funds a native tree planted in West Auckland\, and puts you in the draw for a $3000 e-scooter package — plus two runner-up café vouchers from Deco Eatery and Bodega Eatery — thanks to Bupa\, and the Waitākere Ranges and Whau Local Boards. \nFree to enter. Runs until 30 September 2026. Pick up a printed map at EcoMatters Bike Hubs (New Lynn and Henderson) or download it online: ecomatters.org.nz/flatwhiteride
