SUMMARY:Bike Kaipatiki - Introduction to the CBD cycleways
DESCRIPTION:Meet at Birkenhead Wharf at 9:00am to catch the 9:35am Ferry\, returning on the 11:40am Ferry from downtown. \nThis guided bike ride is aimed for people who ride currently\, who use the city (or surrounding area) and want to try cycling round town but aren’t sure how to use our new cycle paths and where they connect.  The ride is not limited to those working in town – anyone wanting a day out exploring is welcome to join the ride. \nWe will be catching the ferry to the Downtown Ferry Building\, meeting for a briefing where the Next Bike hire bikes are on Queens Wharf.  From there we will head east along the Quay Street Cycleway\, along the Beach Road Cycleway\, up the Grafton Gully Cycleway and along Upper Queen St to the start of the Northwestern Cycleway on Ian Mckinnon Drive. \nThen we head downhill via Canada Street and along Te Ara I Whiti (the pink path) before heading back down the Nelson Street Cycleway\, crossing through Victoria Park\, on to Silo Park\, and back through North Wharf and the Viaduct to the Quay Street Cycleway where we will head back on the ferry to Birkenhead. \nMost of the journey will be on protected cycleways\, though some will be on shared paths (share with care) and small sections will be on the road. \nRiders should be comfortable riding on the road\, riding the distance described above\, and riding hills. You will need a road legal bicycle\, helmet\, your HOP card or cash for your ferry fare\, water\, sunscreen and appropriate clothing keeping in mind it is spring in Auckland. \nWhat to bring: \n\nA roadworthy bike\nYour helmet\nEnclosed footwear\nSunscreen\nA jacket\nWater\nA sense of adventure and your smile.\n\nQuestions? DESCRIPTION:Our Beginner Bike and Maintenance Drop-in Sessions are back for summer with sessions in Henderson\, the Cloud\, Mangere and Takapuna. \nThese sessions are held at Takapuna Primary – park in the school’s carpark and then head to the courts and look for the instructor team there. \nAt the session there will be separate ‘learn to ride’ instruction for anyone who has never ridden a bike\, while other participants will practice skills such as changing gears\, braking\, bike control\, signalling and more. \nA mechanic will also be there to answer any maintenance questions\, including how to remove a wheel\, how to adjust brakes and how to best look after a bike. \nThe drop-in session is a flexible format where you can take part in cycle skills lessons\, bike maintenance\, or a little of both. Unable to stay for the full time? No sweat\, stay for as little or as long as you like. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a group ride along the Twin Streams shared path to Cranwell Reserve in Henderson\, for “Elvis in the Park”! \nThis popular family-friendly event\, featuring Elvis Entertainers\, has been held by the Memories of Elvis Fan Club every year since 2000 to celebrate the birthday of Elvis Presley. \nBring your picnic (or $$ for the food stalls)\, suntan lotion\, and water. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a group ride along the Twin Streams shared path to Cranwell Reserve in Henderson\, for “Elvis in the Park”!\nThis popular family-friendly event\, featuring Elvis Entertainers\, has been held by the Memories of Elvis Fan Club every year since 2000 to celebrate the birthday of Elvis Presley.\nBring your picnic (or $$ for the food stalls)\, suntan lotion\, and water. Dressing up is encouraged\, but not compulsory.\nWe will be meeting at 11 at the Te Atatu Library Verandah (595 Te Atatu Road) with a view to leaving at 11:15 and picking up any extra riders coming from town at the Te Atatu underpass at 11:30*.\nRoute details (we will have maps):\n• Ride along the Te Atatu Shared path & across the motorway interchange\n• Stop to admire the murals on the Te Atatu bike underpass (and pick up any extra riders*)\n• Ride through the underpass along the Nor-Western Cycleway to the Twin Streams (Henderson Creek) Shared Path\n• Ride alongside the creek until Tui Glen Reserve (that’s the one with the great playground) & cross the bridge to Cranwell Park (next to West Wave).\n*If you want join us at Te Atatu underpass\, make sure you’re there before 11.30*

DESCRIPTION:This guided bike ride is aimed for people who ride currently\, and who are looking for a relaxed ride on a relatively level path with great views and good company. \nWe will be catching the ferry to the Downtown Ferry Building\, meeting for a briefing where the NextBike hire bikes are on Queen’s Wharf. From there we’ll head east along the Quay Street Cycleway and Tamaki Drive to Mission Bay (or Okahu Bay if time will not permit a longer ride). Total distance is about 14kms. \nAll of the journey will be on protected cycleways or shared paths (share with care). There will be a few road crossings to navigate. \nRiders should be comfortable riding on the road\, riding the distance described above\, and riding hills.
