SUMMARY:Bike Te Atatu Group Ride to Cycle-Powered Cinema
DESCRIPTION:Let’s ride together to the EcoWest Festival cycle-powered cinema in Avondale. \nWe’ll meet at Te Atatu Peninsula Library verandah at 5.30pm for a 5.45pm departure. And we’ll pick up any Te Atatu South bicyclists at Te Atatu underpass at 6pm. \nWe’ll ride off the road almost all the way\, via the Northwestern Cycleway and the Waterview path to Avondale. There’s a very small amount of back-street riding once we get to Avondale. \nYou’ll be able to make your own way back in your own time or come back with other riders if you aren’t so confident to do that. \nThere’s heaps going on: live music\, art and performances\, food trucks and bike-powered screenings of locally made short films. See this page for more details\, and the event listing here. \nBYO mug for a free hot chocolate. \nThis ride is suitable for most ages and abilities – the route is about 11.5km one way (fairly flat) and it should take us between 40 minutes and an hour. \n

DESCRIPTION:Come create Strava-art with your GPS computer. With a twist: the super-awesome image will only be revealed at the end of the ride! \nJoin the ride here on Strava: https://www.strava.com/clubs/467940/group_events/467494 \nYou may remember Carl Wells and his amazing Strava art from such previous hits as the birthday birthday self-portrait\, and the infamous prostate cancer fundraiser. \nThis year\, Carl wants to do something a bit extra for his favorite charity\, Cool Earth. Environmental destruction and climate change are big and scary problems we need to be doing more to address. Cool Earth helps indigenous communities on the front lines of rainforest destruction earn more from keeping the forest standing than they would otherwise earn from clearing it. Win Win! \nYou can chip in and support the campaign here. \nThe ride is approximately 30km\, and will travel at an easy pace. Carl is hoping for a big group to help create an indelible and impressive image. Questions? Drop Carl a line.

SUMMARY:Adult Drop In Bike Skills Session - Northcote
DESCRIPTION:This is a skills session for people new to riding. There will be separate ‘learn to ride’ instruction for anyone who has never ridden a bike. \nIf you can ride but lack confidence\, our instructors will help with practicing skills such as changing gears\, braking\, bike control\, signalling and more. \nA mechanic will also be there to answer any maintenance questions including how to remove a wheel\, how to adjust brakes and how to best look after a bike. \nThe session is a flexible format where you can take part in cycle skills lessons\, bike maintenance\, or a little of both. Unable to stay for the full time? No sweat\, stay for as little or as long as you like. This is also a good opportunity to come along and ask one of our regional coordinators for more info on riding locally. \nAt 12 noon we will be heading off on a guided ride along the Northcote Safe Routes with those who feel confident enough to leave the grounds on a bike. This will be a great way to put your newfound skills into real world experience. \nSo\, if you are keen to master the art of riding a bike or want to learn to fix a flat… drop in.\nBikes are available on a first-come\, first-served basis. We don’t want you to miss a moment of the fun\, so it is best to be there early. \nNo need to book for these sessions.
