SUMMARY:Advocating for Bike Infrastructure - A Bike Auckland Community Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join Bike Auckland for our next event to help you build capacity to advocate for your cycling community! \nPippa Coom is a former Auckland Councillor and Local Board Chair who came to politics in 2010 via her cycle activism with Bike Auckland. Since then she has been a champion for safer streets\, transport options and community-led decision making. \nPippa’s presentation draws on her experience leading on projects through council processes and her on-going campaigning work. The Inner West projects that are currently underway after a decade of multiple consultations\, delays and vocal opposition provide a case study for how community advocates can build capacity to meaningfully engage\, influence decision makers and navigate the set-backs on the path to successful community outcomes. \nThis will be a facilitated workshop so that we can get some real ideas and inspiration on paper! A three hour gathering\, there will be time to meet your neighbours and strengthen your own connections\, while we discover ways to make others throughout the community and build capacity for your Bike Burb!

SUMMARY:Ghost Bike Art Installation
DESCRIPTION:Sunday 17 November is World Remembrance Day for Road Traffic Victims. \nTo commemorate this sobering day\, Bike Auckland is installing an art installation of 59 white-painted ghost bikes in St Patrick’s Square. 59 is the number of people who have died while riding bikes on the road in the last 5 years in Aotearoa NZ. \nThis installation draws attention to the deaths and serious injuries that will be the result of reversing the safer speeds laws (increasing road speed back to 50km/h in many areas where it was reduced to 30km for safety reasons). \nCome along and pay your respects. You can bring along flowers or bright coloured ribbons to add to the installation. \nA big thank you to Greenpeace for giving us a place to prepare the installation\, and to Bunnings for providing the materials. \nLocation: St Patrick’s Square\, Auckland CBD \n

SUMMARY:Bike Auckland AGM
DESCRIPTION:Join us at our Annual General Meeting on Sunday 17 November in Parnell. \nBike Auckland members and supporters are warmly invited to our Annual General Meeting (AGM)\, which not only takes care of key business\, but also famously highlights the year’s most exciting developments for people on bikes and gives you a peek of what’s on the horizon. We will have presentations from our Chair\, Karen Hormann as well as key committee members and the wider Bike Auckland whānau. \nBike racks will be set up in a carpark in the carparking area behind the building. Please bring your own lock. \nPlease register to attend the AGM to assist us with our planning and communication. \nWe encourage supporters to take a few minutes on their way to the AGM to take in the Ghost Bike art demonstration at St Patrick’s Cathedral Square for World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims. 59 ghost bikes represent the number of people who have died while riding bikes on the road in the last 5 years in Aotearoa NZ. This installation also raises awareness of the future deaths and serious injuries which are predicted from the increase of speed limits in Aotearoa New Zealand. \nThe AGM will be followed by a gentle group ride.  The ride is about 9.5km (similar to last year’s ride) and it’s mainly downhill or on the flat\, mostly on protected bike lanes\, shared paths and quiet streets. It is suitable for e-bikes and non e-bikes. Suitable for adults of all abilities. Small children will do best carried on an adult’s bike. \nThe ride concludes at Good George North Wharf in Wynyard Quarter where we look forward to raising a glass with supporters to a year of sustained and effective mahi (work). \nAccessibility \nThe AGM venue at Jubilee Hall is accessible and has a ramp just along the side with a reserved carpark at the start of the ramp.

SUMMARY:SLO Ride #4 I Let's Celebrate
DESCRIPTION:Let’s SLO down and celebrate. More social than bike ride this time around. \nAs the end of the year draws near\, let’s come together and celebrate the community we’ve created together. \nLeaving Kingsland at 3:30pm\, we will ride to Te Atatu with all we need to prepare pizza\, adult slushies\, and quality sounds for an evening in the sun celebrating what we have created together. \nWe’re in safe hands with Matua Murupaenga (Ngāti Kuri) – pizza aficionado\, winemaker\, and great human\, driving the pizza oven. We’ll transport a pizza oven and all else needed to make our kai with us on cargo bike. If possible\, bring a plate and a cup so we can minimise waste. \nA koha to offset costs would be greatly appreciated\, but not necessary. $10\, or whatever you can afford. Bring cash on the day. \nIf you plan to attend\, please choose “Going” on our Facebook event so we can get an accurate idea on numbers. \nTHE ROUTE I About 15km / 100m to Te Atatu. From there\, find your own way home or join us at whichever pub we choose.\nTHE PACE I It’s leisurely\, even more than usual – bring your partner\, or an opportunity to show your friends that don’t ride the light.\nTHE PEOPLE I Excellent.\nTHE RIGS I Run what ya brung.
