SUMMARY:Bikes & Trucks: a Blind Zone Workshop
DESCRIPTION:If you ride on the road\, you’ve probably wondered what can be seen from the driver’s seat of trucks\, buses\, and construction vehicles. This workshop gives you a chance to find out – and\, crucially\, to learn where the blind spots are and ways to proceed safely if you find yourself on the road with heavy vehicles. \nThis Blind Zone Workshop is specifically aimed at any cyclists who use the road: commuters\, sports and leisure bikers. It’s delivered as part of CAN’s Share the Road programme\, run by qualified facilitators\, and based on a customised and industry-proven curriculum. \nPlease register for this free workshop here using this online registration form. Questions? Please contact Julian Hulls. \nOver 40mins\, the programme will cover: \n* A briefing\, setting the scene on bike safety\n* Demonstrating the features of a heavy vehicle\, and hands-on exercises to identify blind zones\n* After the workshop we’ll have coffee and a muffin for those attending\, at Café Mont just across the road \n(Note: CAN also runs regular Share the Road workshops that put heavy vehicle drivers in the bike seat and vice versa. See here for more information about the Share the Road campaign).

SUMMARY:Drop-in Bike Skills & Maintenance: Mangere
DESCRIPTION:Our Beginner Bike and Maintenance Drop-in Sessions are back for summer with sessions in Henderson\, the Cloud\, Mangere and Takapuna. \nThis session will be happening at Mangere Centre Park – park in Centre Park carpark and look for our instructor team who will be set up there. ‘Bike skills’ is happening in Centre Park\, and the maintenance side of things is happening in the garage at the back of Mangere Community House\, 141 Robertson Rd\, and you can easily walk between the two. \nAt the session there will be separate ‘learn to ride’ instruction for anyone who has never ridden a bike\, while other participants will practice skills such as changing gears\, braking\, bike control\, signalling and more. \nA mechanic will also be there to answer any maintenance questions including how to remove a wheel\, how to adjust brakes and how to best look after a bike. \nThe drop-in session is a flexible format where you can take part in cycle skills lessons\, bike maintenance\, or a little of both. Unable to stay for the full time? No sweat\, stay for as little or as long as you like. It is also a good opportunity to come along and ask one of our regional coordinators for more info on riding locally. \nSo\, if you are keen to master the art of riding a bike or want to learn to fix a flat… pop in. \nBikes are available on a first-come\, first-served basis. We don’t want you to miss a moment of the fun\, so it is best to be there early. \nNo need to book for these sessions.
