DESCRIPTION:Join us on a classic two-hour Sunday ride along some great cycle trails in West Auckland! We’ll have a coffee stop along the way and serve homemade wood-fired pizza at the EcoMatters Bike Hub afterwards. For a map of the route\, see here. \nWe will start at the Packing Shed Cafe and do the Flat White Ride clockwise\, with a coffee stop at The Waterview Coffee Project before finishing at the EcoMatters Bike Hub in New Lynn. The ride will be 21km\, with the option to meet us in Waterview if you prefer doing a shorter ride. \nThis loop combines cycle paths\, shared paths and a little bit of on-road riding\, so you will need to be a confident rider and take responsibility for your own safety. All bikes and e-bikes welcome! \nIf you’re bringing a car\, best is to park it at the Bike Hub in New Lynn\, take the train to Sunnyvale and ride the Oratia Stream Shared Path (pink route) to The Packing Shed. Or join Brent and cycle from New Lynn to Oratia\, leaving the Bike Hub at 8.45am (NB: this is a hilly ride with no dedicated cycle lanes\, suitable for experienced cyclists). \nMeet at 9.15am at the Packing Shed Cafe\, 99 Parrs Cross Road\, Oratia. \nThis event is funded by the Whau Local Board.

Event starts at 6pm* \nCycling is one of the fast growing modes of transport throughout the world\, and Canada has been a leader in developing cycling infrastructure in new world cities. Montréal kicked this off by developing protected cycleway networks 30 years ago\, while English-speaking Canada followed decades later. \nA variety of approaches have been taken\, from the Calgary Cycle Track Pilot and the Edmonton fast implementation of an ‘adaptable permanent’ downtown cycleway grid\, both of which delivered downtown protected cycleway networks very quickly. Vancouver and Victoria took a more traditional approach of developing connected downtown protected cycleway networks one street at a time as permanent installations. \nDale Bracewell was the Active Transportation Manager at the City of Vancouver (now the Transportation Planning Manager) and played an integral part in this transformation. Dale will be talking to the K’ Road community about cycling in Canadian cities with a focus on the engagement journey with the community\, businesses and other stakeholders. \nEveryone welcome who’s interested in how cities get from here to there. DESCRIPTION:Join Bike Auckland and Paul Steely White\, Executive Director of New York’s Transportation Alternatives\, on a lunchtime ride around the city to show the tremendous progress in our inner city cycle network since Paul’s last visit to Auckland in 2013. \nRide route \nWe will meet at City Works Depot outside Best Ugly Bagels and ride up the Nelson St Cycleway\, along Te Ara I Whiti/Lightpath\, back down the Grafton Gully Cycleway\, and along the Quay St extension to Okahu Bay. We will then turn around and ride back along Quay St\, through the Viaduct and Wynyard Quarter\, along the Westhaven boardwalk to finish at Buoy Cafe in Westhaven where we will discuss plans for Skypath. \nBonus!  \nAt 5:30pm that evening\, Paul will be presenting on “How We Win Change: Lessons from New York”\, a free event in Wynyard Quarter. For more information and to RSVP for the evening event\, visit: https://www.facebook.com/events/1481535491952717/ \nAbout Paul Steely White\nPaul Steely White is the executive director of Transportation Alternatives(Transalt)\, the non-profit advocacy group that is catalysing the rapid growth of New York City’s bicycle lane network and car-free public spaces. Paul joined Transportation Alternatives in 2004 after seven years as Projects Director for the NYC-based Institute for Transportation and Development Policy. \nUnder Paul’s leadership\, Transportation Alternatives has released dozens of breakthrough studies and pioneered a host of new advocacy strategies. Paul has an MS in Environmental Science from the University of Montana at Missoula\, where in addition to his coursework\, he worked to spark a local flowering in bicycle culture and infrastructure. Paul has appeared hundreds of times in local and national media\, and has shared his advocacy strategies with diverse audiences around the world. \nThis free event is hosted by Bike Auckland\, the non-profit organisation working for a better city for people on bikes.

DESCRIPTION:Share the Road Workshops give you skills and confidence to enjoy your ride. In a safe and supportive environment\, professional facilitators will help you learn how to: \n• Keep control of your bike\n• Ride to be seen\n• Choose safe routes\n• Deal with heavy vehicles \nWHEN Sunday 19 August\, 2-5pm \nWHERE Meet at the pavilion in Cox’s Bay Reserve\, off West End Rd in Westmere \nThe workshop will take 2 1/2 to 3 hrs and is FREE. It’ll start with a classroom discussion\, continue with a view of the road from a heavy vehicle driver’s perspective\, some bike control drills\, and a brief ride on quiet local streets\, before returning to the classroom for a light afternoon tea. \nThe courses are industry-leading and approved by the NZTA. Lunch is provided. All you need is your own bike (or e-bike)\, helmet\, and clothing suitable for the weather. Anyone of driving-license age or so is welcome. \nFor health & safety reasons\, please register here.
