DESCRIPTION:In an algorithm-meets-art collaboration\, artist Shannon Novak and iion have programmed Te Ara I Whiti – The Lightpath to deliver happiness for Art Week. \nThis innovative artwork\, commissioned by Auckland Council\, is called Random Acts. It will shine in movement\, colour and light from 7.30pm to 6.30am every day from 4 to 13 October. \nShannon Novak says it began with the Art Week theme of ‘happiness’. His practice focuses on growing positive mental health outcomes for LGBTQI+ communities which aligns well with the Art Week theme. \n“For this commission\, I wanted to connect with the wider population – beyond LGBTQI+ communities. We explored how the essence of random acts of kindness could be expressed through this interactive lightwork. The algorithm sees the palette of lighting lift as people pass and connect with each other\,” he says. \nHayley Wolters of Auckland Council Public Art encourages you to experience Random Acts on Te Ara I Whiti – The Lightpath on your way to and from the city centre for Art Week from 4 until 13 October. \n“As someone moves along the Lightpath\, the lights change from magenta to a colourful display in response to their movement\, and as people pass each other the colours merge and intensify expressing positivity as people connect\,” she says. \nSee the full Art Week line-up here: heartofthecity.co.nz/artweek

Join our Family Friendly Bike Ride on Tuesday 8th October and celebrate the joy of cycling. \nWe’ll meet on the grass in front of the Barn (the building with the toilets) at 2pm to ride along the Watercare Coastal walkway to Puketutu Island (approx. 13km return). One traffic light controlled crossing in each direction\, otherwise the ride is traffic free. \nThis ride is entirely flat on a gravel road type surface. Suitable for bikes\, e-bikes\, cargo bikes. \nChildren must be accompanied by an adult and all participants need to wear a helmet please. We recommend you have appied sunscreen and bring some drinking water with you. \nWe look forward to you joining us for a fun afternoon of cycling.

DESCRIPTION:Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland’s transport future is under threat\nCentral Government has funded less than the region’s expected amount toward future-focused transport modes – walking\, cycling and public transport. In fact\, they have removed all funding for new cycleways entirely\, providing just 1% of our region’s transport allocation to finish off existing cycleway projects in Tāmaki Makaurau. \nNo funding not only means that cycleway construction will stop\, even worse\, it also means no planning of future cycling infrastructure can take place. Cycling could simply be left out of the future of our city. \nAuckland Council must now decide which planned projects to continue with and in what areas they will backfill central Government’s shortfall. We desperately need our Councillors to represent people on bikes and fight for a resilient and sustainable city by choosing bikes. \nYour Councillors can’t make these decisions without hearing from residents – and that means you. Will you help them understand the need for safe cycling infrastructure? \nOur campaign to protect Auckland’s transport future is working!\nOver the last two weeks\, dozens of Bike Auckland members have been emailing our local councillors asking them to stand by their commitments to invest in cycling programmes and infrastructure\, now and into the future. Our hard work is working: Auckland Council has asked Auckland Transport to investigate funding option 4c\, one of the options more favourable to cycling. \nOur Councillors need to hear from you before the final decision\nWe know our campaign is working\, but we need all voices in the mix. If you’re in Albany\, Ōrākei or Manukau\, we’d especially love your help. \nWe’ve provided a simple cheat sheet and an example letter to help you email your Councillor. DESCRIPTION:We’ve changed the details so that the Cargo Bike Picnic can take place at the ‘Here comes the Fun’ event at Point Chev School. This is a celebratory bike event put on by Bike Pt Chev and Point Chev School community and will have food\, coffee\, music\, kids’ bike challenges\, an adult ‘talk tent’ for bike conversations\, and much more! In short – a perfect place to have a cargo bike picnic! \n\n \nRide option: meet at Electric Bike Team (29 east street) before 12pm to ride together to Point Chevalier School – Rangi-mata-rau a 7km flat ride\, all on bike paths.\nWithout Ride: simply meet at the school at 1pm.\n \nCargo riders and the cargo curious are all welcome! BYO kai or purchase at the event.
