SUMMARY:Bike Advocacy Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Aotearoa is currently feeling the devastating consequences of climate change and yet there seems to be a lack of action from political leaders. It can all feel all too much and daunting to try to make a difference. \nThere is hope. Erin Thomas\, Director of Change at the International Center for Advocates Against Discrimination and founder of The Launch is running a workshop for Bike Auckland’s Bike Burbs to upskill in advocacy and campaigns. You will have a chance to learn how to identify advocacy objectives and targeting your energy in an effective manner. This is a great opportunity if you have limited capacity and want to deliver your message to different audiences who can influence the decision-making process. \nKai and inu provided. \nCapacity limited to make sure everyone is heard and is involved in the interactive workshop. Make sure you register on Eventbrite to secure your space. \nhttps://www.eventbrite.co.nz/e/bike-advocacy-workshop-tickets-699409270957 \n*** \nBike Advocacy Workshop \nWednesday 13 September\, 2023 \nGribblehirst Community Hub \n5:30pm – 7:30pm \n***

SUMMARY:Transporting us to a cooler future
DESCRIPTION:Register for this event through the Auckland Climate Festival website. \nIt is 2050 and Auckland’s population is around 2.5 million people. A rapid and complete transformation of the transport and land-use planning system means the way people\, goods and services move around Auckland today is very different from how it was done 27 years ago. \nWe do not need to use our cars as much because there are alternative ways to get around. These are easy and affordable\, so we walk\, cycle and take public transport more. \nWhen we do need to use a vehicle\, they are cleaner and more fuel efficient than what we had in 2023 and they are powered by renewable electricity. \nWe travel together with other people more often to reduce the number of individual vehicle trips taken. \nSome trips are shorter than they were 27 years ago\, and there are now more options for people to work online. \nWe have safer streets that promote independent travel for all ages and abilities and there are better health outcomes through increased levels of physical activity\, improved air quality  and reduced noise pollution. \nAt this Auckland Conversations we will explore the cooler transport future for Auckland: Why we have ended up with the transport system of today\, what can be done to enable a cooler transport system for the future\, and importantly how to make the changes needed to get us there. \nOur Speakers: \nTiffany Robinson Senior Transport Planner\, ARUP New Zealand. \nTim Adriaansen Senior Transport Advisor\, Auckland Council. \nFrith Walker Head of Placemaking\, Eke Panuku. \nDr Timothy Welch Co-Director\, Future Cities Research Hub. \nDean Kimpton Chief Executive\, Auckland Transport. \nArriving by bike? Roll right up to the gate for free VIP parking.\nEnjoy free secure bike parking\, so that you can enjoy the event worry-free. Thank you for easing congestion\, reducing emissions and freeing up space in our city! Bike Auckland will be there to help register your bike to 529 Garage\, an anti-theft and bike recovery database. \nDoors open 5pm
