DESCRIPTION:Join Zara (pronouns: they/them) at Bike Hub Queen’s Wharf for the third and final session in our series of three sessions on cycle maintenance 101 for WTQ participants. \nThese practical\, hands-on workshops are suitable for beginners and best suited to people aged 16 and above. You’ll be learning how to look after your bike alongside other women\, trans\, and queer folks\, with skilled mechanics also from these communities\, in a friendly environment. These workshops aim to build your confidence to discover more bike repair skills at Bike Hubs all over Tāmaki Makaurau. You are welcome to stay at the end to continue chatting and connecting with other attendees. \nSession two: Shifter Issues Bring ease to your cycle trips. \nThis third session in our series is a practical\, hands-on workshop suitable for those with some bike tinkering experience. \nAt this Shifter Issues 101 workshop\, our WTQ mechanics will take you step by step through: \n\nsafety checking your bike\ntroubleshooting gear shifting problems\ntuning front and rear derailleurs\n\n  \nBring your own bike to practice on if you can. Already cycling\, commuting and/or want to meet like minded people? \nCome join Louise Tu’u\, a Samoan recreational cyclist and director of We Should Practice\, who knows how much fun it is to ride on a bike and wants to share her love and enthusiasm so that other ethnic women can ride push or e-bikes. \nWe have a line-up of amazing guest speakers\, who we will reveal closer to the time. They are all womxn of colour and understand the unique opportunities and challenges that we face when cycling. \nNote: We use the word womxn to avoid the suggestion of sexism perceived in the spelling sequences m-a-n and m-e-n\, and to be inclusive of trans women and nonbinary people.\nOtahuhu Recreational Sports Society is just off the beautiful shared walking and cycle path of Station Road\, so we encourage you to cycle on your bike. Cycling is a powerful way for women to become visible in society and a completely new way to interact with the city.\nFancy Women Bike Ride is an event for women\, organized by women to call for infrastructure and inspiration.\nThe more women who cycle\, the more women will be encouraged to cycle.\nEvery year\, the fancy women bike ride is held on World #CarFreeDay and this year more than 200 cities will be participating in this event.\nWe are celebrating the 10th anniversary of the #fwbr movement. It will be the first one in Tāmaki Makaurau. \nThe Route: \nIt is 5km and it’s flat. We will ride through Viaduct\, Silo Park\, Westhaven and finish the ride at the cafe – Buoy for coffee/drinks.\nA map showing the route will be posted on the event’s page. \nPlease be at “The Cloud” at 2pm.\nWe will start the ride at 2.15pm on the dot. This ride is for female riders who are new to riding or who may need a confidence boost.     We will start with a quick ride around the carpark\, to gauge rider levels\, before heading onto the Cascades Shared Pathway. The ride will be slow\, leisurely and supportive – we will ride as much or as little as everyone is up too  A coffee stop will be included!\nRide will begin at 9am from Howick Historical Village but please show up at 8:45am for a quick briefing.\nRIDER SUITABILITY\nA relaxed\, almost flat\, social ride.\n∙ Must be able to ride a bike but by no means do you need to be 100% confident.\nBIKE SUITABILITY\n√ Mountain Bikes\n√ Hybrid Bikes\n√ eBikes\nThe Cascades Shared Pathway\, the local gem that connects many of our local burbs! This ride will show you the key entry points\, a few of the off-shoots and how to make your way to Bunnings! That’s right\, this meandering path has many en route attractions with exits\nto shops\, cafes\, the best Asian eateries\, playgrounds\, swimming pools\, supermarkets\, sports fields and five schools. We’ll start in Howick and head to Burswood\, looping around a Tāmaki Estuary inlet before heading to Lloyd Elsmore Park for a coffee at the Howick Homestead Cafe. From here will take a quick detour to the Highland Park end\, and pop out at Meadowlands Drive\nto show you East AK’s only cycle path! Join us for this local explore.
