SUMMARY:Transporting us to a cooler future
DESCRIPTION:Register for this event through the Auckland Climate Festival website. \nIt is 2050 and Auckland’s population is around 2.5 million people. A rapid and complete transformation of the transport and land-use planning system means the way people\, goods and services move around Auckland today is very different from how it was done 27 years ago. \nWe do not need to use our cars as much because there are alternative ways to get around. These are easy and affordable\, so we walk\, cycle and take public transport more. \nWhen we do need to use a vehicle\, they are cleaner and more fuel efficient than what we had in 2023 and they are powered by renewable electricity. \nWe travel together with other people more often to reduce the number of individual vehicle trips taken. \nSome trips are shorter than they were 27 years ago\, and there are now more options for people to work online. \nWe have safer streets that promote independent travel for all ages and abilities and there are better health outcomes through increased levels of physical activity\, improved air quality  and reduced noise pollution. \nAt this Auckland Conversations we will explore the cooler transport future for Auckland: Why we have ended up with the transport system of today\, what can be done to enable a cooler transport system for the future\, and importantly how to make the changes needed to get us there. \nOur Speakers: \nTiffany Robinson Senior Transport Planner\, ARUP New Zealand. \nTim Adriaansen Senior Transport Advisor\, Auckland Council. \nFrith Walker Head of Placemaking\, Eke Panuku. \nDr Timothy Welch Co-Director\, Future Cities Research Hub. \nDean Kimpton Chief Executive\, Auckland Transport. \nArriving by bike? Roll right up to the gate for free VIP parking.\nEnjoy free secure bike parking\, so that you can enjoy the event worry-free. Thank you for easing congestion\, reducing emissions and freeing up space in our city! Bike Auckland will be there to help register your bike to 529 Garage\, an anti-theft and bike recovery database. \nDoors open 5pm

SUMMARY:Bike Valet parking at Auckland Conversations - Our City Tomorrow\, Reimagining Auckland
DESCRIPTION:It’s been a decade since the highly influential Janette Sadik-Khan visited Auckland. That visit was a catalyst for change in the city that has seen the creation and renewal of many public spaces and improvements in cycle and walking infrastructure. But the world has changed\, vision is in short supply and momentum has been lost. How can we reimagine Auckland and develop a city fit for the future?  \nJanette Sadik-Khan and Rt Hon Helen Clark will be discussing the possibilities that a renewed sense of confidence in urban transformation could bring to Auckland in the next ten years. Janette will be speaking about her global experience of working with city Mayors and authorities. What lessons has she learned and what are the opportunities she sees for Auckland? \nBike valet will be there to support the event\, find us just outside the venue\, in the Aotea Centre.
