SUMMARY:Ride the Avondale to New Lynn shared path to Te Toi Uku/Crown Lynn clayworks museum for a tour/talk
DESCRIPTION:The Bike Owairaka Te Toi Uku/Crown Lynn Clayworks ride event is an easy\, safe cycle ride suitable for a range of people on bikes from confident riders to those who are a little bit rusty and somewhat hesitant about their skills. \nThe 9km (4.5km each way) ride will be led by Bike Owairaka (Jarvie Tunnicliffe and Jo Johnson) along the Avondale to New Lynn shared pathway from Alan Wood Park\, Bollard Avenue\, Owairaka to Te Toi Uku/Crown Lynn Clayworks museum at Ambrico Place.  There we will safely park up while enjoying a guided tour of the museum and its environs led by heritage consultant Robyn Mason. Dan’s been moving dancefloors for well over a decade – he’s played the country’s biggest festivals and dancefloors\, shared the DJ booth with some of dance music’s brightest stars\, and has even remixed the legendary Fatboy Slim.\n \nDan was scheduled to play our last Bike Rave in May\, but unfortunately was struck down by COVID at the last moment. Possibly a social beer afterwards. \nEven if you don’t have a tall bike you can come along anyway! \n— \nTall bikes are simply bikes welded on top of other bikes to make them tall. These are called “tall bikes”. Metaphorically speaking\, you sit on these at least a floor higher than the usual riding position. \nTall bikes belong to the family of freak or art bikes. These are wheels that redefine the ride feeling and push the boundaries of what is possible. They are born in creative minds and on old bicycles. They stand out by their individuality and are exclusively home-built.\n\nPeople ride tall bikes because they can\, and also because the feeling is better – not to mention the view. Perversely\, tall bikes are probably the safest velocipedal machine there is\, as no driver wants to come within 30 feet of you.

DESCRIPTION:Date: October 2nd\, 2022 \nTime: 9:00am – 12:00pm \nHaere mā runga paihikara mā Te Auaunga (Journey by bicycle along Oakley Creek) \nDetails. Sunday October 2nd\, Start 9:00am Finish 12:00pm – Start at Molley Green Reserve close to the source of the Awa\, and finish at Waterview Reserve where the Awa empties into the Waitematā. \nThis is a lovely 11km (one way) gentle ride on off road paths that will suit families and new riders. The ride will be fine for all levels of fitness. The suggestion for minimum rider age is 8 years. This route will be suitable for all types of bikes. \nOur guide and storyteller will be Wendy John\, the Project Manager of Ngā Ringa o Te Auaunga – Friends of Oakley Creek\, which was established in 2004 to raise the profile of the Awa amongst the wider community\, and to increase recognition of the value and potential of Oakley Creek and its surrounds. We will stop at different points along the path where Wendy will tell us what will/might happen in that area. We will spend some time helping volunteers from Friends of Oakley Creek care for plants and trees that have recently been planted alongside the Awa at Harbutt Reserve. At the end of the ride\, there will be an opportunity for people to explore the Waterview Heritage Area. There will be an opportunity to make a koha to the mahi of Ngā Ringa o Te Auaunga – Friends of Oakley Creek. \nCoffee. The plan is to provide an after-ride coffee and light lunch nearby at Daily Bread\, we will provide details closer to the time. A number of us will be riding back to Mt Roskill/Puketāpapa pa after lunch\, so if you plan to drive to the start\, you will have good company for the ride back. \nRegistration. DESCRIPTION:FANCY. FIERCE. FUN. \nYou are invited to join the Auckland Fancy Women Bike Ride on Sunday\, September 18th!\nBecause women can change the world\, and the bicycle can help. Women’s visibility in urban spaces is key to claiming the right to the city. Cycling is a powerful way for women to become visible in society and a completely new way to interact with the city.\nFancy Women Bike Ride is an event for women\, organized by women to call for infrastructure and inspiration.\nThe more women who cycle\, the more women will be encouraged to cycle.\nEvery year\, the fancy women bike ride is held on World #CarFreeDay and this year more than 200 cities will be participating in this event.\nWe are celebrating the 10th anniversary of the #fwbr movement. It will be the first one in Tāmaki Makaurau. \nThe Route: \nIt is 5km and it’s flat. We will ride through Viaduct\, Silo Park\, Westhaven and finish the ride at the cafe – Buoy for coffee/drinks.\nA map showing the route will be posted on the event’s page. \nPlease be at “The Cloud” at 2pm.\nWe will start the ride at 2.15pm on the dot. So please don’t be late. \nGUIDELINES: \n\nDress code: Fancy\, fierce\, fabulous (whatever makes you feel beautiful\, strong and great!)\nDecorate your bicycle\, pose for the cameras and take selfies\, greet & smile at people during the ride.\nBe inclusive to all womxn and support those new to cycling (offer help!)\nBring your friends\, mothers\, aunties and sisters and be prepared for a magical morning.\n\nNo registration required. You just need a bike.\nMen can join so long as they ride with us\, not ahead of us. We ask men to dress up as well. SUMMARY:"Bike path ride NW cycleway to Ōwairaka & return via parks & coffee"
DESCRIPTION:Meet us at the Holy Grail Cafe (next to The Vintage Consortium on Central Road) for coffee!\nAfter a bit of a chat we will go for a casual group ride along the North Western\, Waterview path\, and then alongside Te Auaunga Awa (Oakley Creek) to the Young George Cafe in Ōwairaka for snacks!\nIf there are kids with us we will detour to the nearby playground and pumptrack.\nThen we will ride as a group all the way back!\nBring a keepcup for sustainability \nThe route is 90% off-road shared paths. There is a short stretch from the Oakley Creek path to Young George\, which is along a quiet street instead\, but everything else is off road and through parks. The pace will be pretty chill\, with stops along the way so that we don’t leave anyone behind\, and so that people can catch their breath or stretch their arms.\nPeople who are new to riding are absolutely welcome\, and so are children. Please keep an eye on your kids. Skaters\, scooter riders\, and mobility device users are also welcome!\nIf you would like to help as a marshal on the ride let us know \nThis was an idea we drew from our Bike Kingsland suggestion box at our Ideas Evening – thank you to whoever popped it in the box!

SUMMARY:Riverhead Gravel Ride
DESCRIPTION:This is a casual\, no-drop ride on the gravel dire roads within the forest. The planned route is about 24Km\, entirely within the forest. \nAny riders on suitable bikes are welcome – the roads a rough in places so not well suited to out-and-out road bikes\, but not so bad that you need a full-suspension mountain bike.\nPace will be determined by the slowest rider in the group\, no one will get left behind. \nThe ride will go ahead\, sunshine or showers\, but may be cancelled or postponed if heavy rain or high winds are forecast. \nRide starts at 9am\, and will take as long as it takes!

DESCRIPTION:Meet us at Songbird Cafe on Sunday the 19th June from 10am or at MELBA Karaka from 11.15am for a weekend catch-up hosted by Bike Papakura & Takānini and Bike Auckland. \n\nWe’ll start at Songbird cafe at 10am\, where the coffee / hot chocolate is free\, covered by Bike Auckland. After some kōrero (talk)\, we’ll take a 20 minute group ride along the Southern Corridor arriving at MELBA Karaka (Papakura end of the path) by 11.15am.\nAt MELBA Cafe we’ll have some brunch snacks\, also covered by Bike Auckland. When we’re finished\, there will be an opportunity to ride together back to the Takānini end of the path. \n\nBring your bikes for the group ride or just join us for coffee\n– 10am at Songbird\, or\n– 11.15am at MELBA  \n\nWe want to hear your thoughts about Papakura\, Takānini\, and cycling. All bike tribes are welcome\, from the mountain biker to the e-commuter. He maintains the sculptures of some of the country’s most eminent artists and is a fantastic raconteur.\n\nAlongside the Art are stories of significant sites and historic events en route. We welcome back local historian Lisa Truttman\, chauffeured on one of our rickshaws (there may be a spare seat if you’re not a cyclist.
